About
Our story starts with four friends, a collective passion for better beer, and a garage. Brewing off a 20L rig consisting of a pot, a propane stand and a few glass fermenters, the 4 broad-headed (aka big noggined) fellas honed their skills. Feedback was so positive that thirst quickly outgrew supply and the idea of opening a commercial brewery was born.

With a fraction of the capital advised to take on a project of this magnitude, the founders banked on their engineering prowess to retrofit and repurpose equipment in combination with a whole lot of sweat equity and late nights. In the fall of 2011, Broadhead Brewery kicked its doors open to the public in Ottawa, Ontario.

Over the past decade, we’ve been fortunate enough to be able to live our dream and share that dream with our incredible team and amazing customers. While much has changed since the garage days, our strong work ethic holds true, we remain focused on crafting high quality beer that’s innovative yet approachable, while leveraging the backgrounds of our founders to conduct regular feats of engineering.

A hazed pinkish ale with a thin white head. In aroma, grainy and fruity malt with light cinnamon notes, light veggie notes, OK. In mouth, a sweet vegetal malt with faint beets, cinnamon, light but smooth. On tap at Rochester Pub.

Long Shot White from Broadhead Brewing Company

Nice white. Coriander, some citrus and good balance. Finishes with light sweetness, some sourness. Pours cloudy golden with great head and lacing. It’s always great when I actually enjoy a beer from a style I don’t ordinarily like. Sampled at the Winterbrewed festival in Ottawa.

Not realky my thing. But then again ive never been a fan on candy cane. Pours black without much head or lacing. Aroma of roast malt and peppermint gum or candy cane. Watery consistency. Minty finish with a little bitterness. Tap at Black Tomato.

Victory Brown Ale from Broadhead Brewing Company

Pours fairly red for a brown ale. This one misses the mark a little. Ok head and lacing. Faint hint of roast malt here but aroma and palate are very light here. Finishes with very light bitterness. Tap at Black Tomato.

A reddish copper ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, nice peaty caramel malt with wood extract, herbal notes, nice. In mouth, a nice caramel malt with light woody character, peated notes, treacle, scotch character, nice. On tap at Arrow and Loon.

Nice stout. Well-balanced with coffee, dark chocolate and roast malt. Pours black with ok head and lacing. Finishes with mild bitterness. Soft carbonation. Tap at Black Tomato.

Underdog Pale from Broadhead Brewing Company

Strong lime peel aroma here. Heavily hopped and good, but needs a little more balancing out. Pours golden with great head and carpet lacing. This beer has some good potential, just needs some rigging. Finishes very bitter. Tap at Back Tomato.

Not a lot going on here but good for an easy session golden ale. Pours pale golden with ok head and lace. Some nice crisp barley. No offtastes or anything. Tap at patty Bolands.

A dark brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, loads of candy mint and chocolate, like After Eights, and mouthwash. In mouth, a sweet chocolate with mint and toothpaste finish, like eating chocolate and brushing your teeth. Cask at Beau’s Oktoberfest 2013.
