Description
Our award-winning beers aren’t called 'The Great Ales of Wales' for nothing. Brewed with passion and pleasure in South Wales, our prized portfolio truly has something to satisfy every beer connoisseur’s taste buds.

We are a family-run business with brewing in our blood, and this sense of pride can be tasted in every delicious drop crafted on site at our brewery in Swansea.

The present incarnation of Tomos Watkin was started in 1995 by Simon Buckley. In 2002 the Tomos Watkin brewery was acquired by Hurns Beer Company, a drinks distributor based in South Wales. Tomos Watkin first operated from a small brewery in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire and later opened a larger brewery in Swansea.

In August 2023, the Tomos Watkin brewery was purchased by no/low alcohol brewery Drop Bear, who also took over brewing responsibilities for all Tomos Watkin beers. As well as updating the Tomos Watkin brand with several new beers added to their core range, all their beers were made vegan-friendly.

50 cl clear bottle, 7aptof, Frederiksberg, DK imported by YNWA. Pours clear and deep golden orange, stunning deep orange colour. Sweet fruity and clean apple aroma. Sweet apple flavoured with a nice phenolic note too. Slight growing intensity on the phenolic notes. Increasing dry and tart into the finish. Really a nice cider.

Near black beer, orange-amber reflections; creamy, near solid dark beige head. Sweet molasses, liquorice, and a bit of chocolate. Roasted grains, impression of black cacao powder, developping more and more to chocolate. Light but NOT empty; slickness, not unremindful of water-based chocolatemilk, grist-y. Not a bad one! this is an interesting dark British ale, well-worth trying.

Bottled. A dark golden cider with no head. The aroma is strong of apples with some acidity and light notes of wood. The flavor is rather sweet, but with an underlying acidity, strong notes of apples as well as lighter notes of berries - reminds me of raspberries, leading to a dry and slightly woody finish. The body is thick.
