Description
Our award-winning beers aren’t called 'The Great Ales of Wales' for nothing. Brewed with passion and pleasure in South Wales, our prized portfolio truly has something to satisfy every beer connoisseur’s taste buds.

We are a family-run business with brewing in our blood, and this sense of pride can be tasted in every delicious drop crafted on site at our brewery in Swansea.

The present incarnation of Tomos Watkin was started in 1995 by Simon Buckley. In 2002 the Tomos Watkin brewery was acquired by Hurns Beer Company, a drinks distributor based in South Wales. Tomos Watkin first operated from a small brewery in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire and later opened a larger brewery in Swansea.

In August 2023, the Tomos Watkin brewery was purchased by no/low alcohol brewery Drop Bear, who also took over brewing responsibilities for all Tomos Watkin beers. As well as updating the Tomos Watkin brand with several new beers added to their core range, all their beers were made vegan-friendly.

[500ml bottle from Tescos Haverfordwest] 4.2% ABV when I tried it. Moderate carbonation (a little too fizzy for the beer) with a small foamy beige head. Sweet malt flavour, very easy drinking - reminded me in some ways of a pale lager. A good, thirst-quenching session bitter, but nothing special.

Bottle from D&J Liquor in (near) St. Louis, MO. Amber color with a decent beige head. Very "light stone fruit" aroma over slightly roasted caramel. Medium plus body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is rather malty with a fair amount of fruitiness. Finish tends to end bitter. Fits ESB style, though perhaps the malt is a bit rougher than usual.

Bottle from The Wine Merchant Ltd. in (near) St. Louis, MO. Coppery amber color with a frothy off-white head. Floral and fruit aromas. Near medium body with watery/frothy carbonation. Flavor is reddish roasted caramel. with floral bitter. Very pleasant. Suggests an ESB, given the florality. It is very tasty and drinkable. Sessionable.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel and flowers - a bit cloying. The flavor is sweet with light notes of roasted malt, chocolate, soy sauce, and flowers, leading to a dry, roasted, and bitter finish. The body is good.

Bottle, Spar by Millennium Stadium, Cardiff. Pissy golden colour with a thin vanishing white head. Fragrant hop aroma. Pleasant enough citrus (grapefruit) in the flavour. Easy drinking, but little in the finish. Actually slightly better than anticipated but won’t be rushing back for a repeact purchase.
