About
It all began when Jan-Léonard Moortgat and his wife founded the Moortgat brewery farm in 1871. Around the turn of the century, Moortgat was one of the over 3,000 breweries operating in Belgium. Jan-Leonard experimented by trial and error, and his top-fermented beers were soon greatly appreciated in the brewery's home town of Puurs and far beyond. Before long, the Brussels bourgeoisie was also won over by his beers. Business was booming and Jan-Leonard's two sons, Albert and Victor, joined the company. There was a clear division of labour: Albert became the brewer, Victor was responsible for delivering the beer to Brussels by horse and dray. In 1923 the production of Duvel began with just a few crates. Today, Duvel is enjoyed literally all around the world (in over 50 countries) by countless beer lovers. On tap at Capital Ale House - Downtown on 10/27/2008. Clear golden copper body with a medium creamy off-white head with belgian lace. Sweet candi sugar aroma with lots of fruit. Big candi sugar flavor, very sweet fruit and caramel. Medium body with moderate carbonation and a syrupy finish. 8/4/7/3/15 - 3.7 06/05/2006: Clear golden color with a large frothy white head. 330 ml bottle. Thick white head, I mean thick thick thick. Long lasting as well. Nice flavor, and while 8.5, it doesn’t seem too strong.

Rerate bottle, bought at Vinmonopolet: With a brisk pour you get a very large and lasting head, and the carbonation is not too much after all. Fairly decent hops place this pils in the "slightly above average" category. I’m upping it 1 point. Original rating: 330 ml bottle, as Vedett Extra Blond, ABV is 5.2%. Courtesy of Cardinal, Stavanger. Also available in Norway in Vinmonopolet stores (bestillingsutvalget). The beer’s website is www.vedett.com . Served in Duvel glass (same brewery). Very pale colour, decent head. Moderately hoppy aroma, notes of cardboard and "dusty attic". Flavour is moderately hoppy - this is an average pils. A bit too carbonated for my taste.

Hazy golden color with a huge frothy white head. Lots of carbonation. Aroma of spice and light yeastiness. Sweet malt, some fruit, light citrus, and some yeast in the flavor.

Golden amber very hazy with creamy white head. Smell of a sour citrus floral malt. Very bitter tingle of malt flavor with a sweet finish.

330ml bottle (bb.Oct.08). Deep golden colour. Large rocky head and long lived foam. Aromatic hops and ripe fruit character. Spicy flavour with hints of orange and yeasty undertones. A robust ale with a long warming finish.

Bottle. Funny this. The aroma is very much like the red Duvel which is one of my favourite beers. This clear filtered version has less creaminess and body than the red. Nice citric fruit still though. Nice and juicy. Prefer the red label though.
