New Beer Distributors, NYC bottle ($2.25): Pours orange with a white head. Aroma is distinctly tropical fruit, grapefruit, west coast whatever, from the moment that I cracked the cap with my office stapler (really the only reason I keep a stapler next to my computer). Taste is immediately bitter then hits with a touch of sweet and then the bitterness takes back over and lingers deep into the aftertaste. Pretty good, although it is certainly not breaking new grounds. Not as juicy as some west coasters and certainly less malty than the east coasters. Good.

On tap at Top Hops, NY, 19/5/2015. Near black with a decent, beige, head. Aroma of chocolate, Belgian yeast and toasted malts. Flavour was sweetish, with more chocolate and a touch of dark fruit, leading to a dryish finish. Enjoyable.

Draught. Cloudy pale yellow with very small white head, high carbonation, bread aroma, thin body, lightly bitter slightly sour malty taste, abrupt finish. Nothing spectacular.

64oz growler from Superstar Huntington pours a murky orange with some frothy white head. Nose has orange and grapefruit peel, some soap, mild pine, a little malt, a little fruit. Flavor is heavy with citrus bitterness, some mild fruit to round things out, some more tannic grist character, quite a bit of soap. A little grating on the finish which distracts.

The Diamond, Brooklyn tap: pours light browb with a beige head. Aroma is pine, caramel, and general maltiness. Taste is malty with some hop bit in the finish. At first it seemed kind of weak but it grew on me later. Good.

Hefiger, angenehm frischer Antrunk. Trauben sind zwar wenig erkennbar, die Hefigkeit mit der leichten Süße dafür um so stärker. Spritzig, rund, belgisch. Hell gewürziger Abgang. 11/10/10/10//11

Tap - "Greenport Abbey Dubbel" - headless purple beer - this straight-up tastes like grape juice - a wee bit of tartness and maybe a hint of phenolic spiciness - but mostly sweet grapiness - what the hell.
