Description

8th Feb 2015: bottle in Brugge. Dark brown pour with a full tanned head for a topping. My bottle gave off a semi-sour wine aroma and tasted similar: might have been skunked somewhere during it’s life: can’t believe Daisey would not have looked after it though. Yeasty, malty and that sourness. Scored objectively as I can.

Bottled. Hazy amber colour with a small off-white head. Aroma has spices, some sweet malts and mild wooden notes. Flavour is spicy, some earthy and malty notes along with a burn in the aftertaste. Not overly burning, but the flavour is quite thin as for the body.

Very strong top-fermented cherry beer (a style gaining increasing popularity in especially Wallonia and northern France), with off-pinkish, thinnish head and misty, pinkish brown colour. Aroma of indeed cherries but rather in a cherry jam kind of way, yoghurt, caramel, red apple peel, walnuts, vague sulphuric hint. Sweet but quite genuinely fruity onset, not too sugary, sourish touch, some caramelly malts, light bitterness in the finish along with some warming alcohol, which nevertheless stays relatively well hidden seen its ABV. Not my preferred style, but interesting nonetheless.

330 ml. bottle @ home. Procured from Willems & Zoon. 12 % ABV. Lol, what? Label tells me to check cap for BBF date, cap is blank aka the usual. Pours very dark cherry red. Barely any off-white / pink head. Nose is thick kriek juice, light pits, faint yoghurt & light iron, very nice. Taste disappoints strongly after the smell, odd bitter moldy kriek, bitter leaves, plaster, bitter chemicals, washing powder, lots of rotting kriek,…. Very lingering plaster, bitter mouldy kriek after-waste,… Bitter plant-like. Body is a touch fizzy & feels hollow. Something didn’t work as intended here.

The Sampler, Brooklyn bottle: Pours light brown with a beige head. Aroma is Belgian yeast, sugar, and some spices. Taste is a little sweet and spicy. Not that complex. Not bad though. I was surprised by the low rating. It was OK.

@ botteltje. Pours dark brown, good white head. Smell is earthy, spices, green leaves. Taste is bit bitter ( green aspect) roasted malts , chocolaty, earthy in the back. Some spices. Slightly overcarbonated and too thin for 10 abv. Nice, chocolatty aftertaste. Some metalic maltyness
