Bottle from Wine & Beer Westpark in Richmond. Reddish amber pour with almost no head. Subtle, fruity citrus hop aroma. Taste is subtle, but tasty, with an almost perfect malt/hop balance. One of the most drinkable beers I’ve come across in a while. Nicely done.

Rated June 2008. Pours clear deep amber with thin dark tan head. The aroma is sweet sticky crystal malts mixed with citrus and pine hops and not much else. The taste starts pine hop bitterness that becomes piney, dark fruitiness from dates, raisins and prunes and even some more fruitiness with cherry notes. Nice tasting American style barleywine. It seems to have a smooth balance between dark fruitiness and pine hops with a background of mild malt sweetness.

Came by way of trade with Footbalm. Thanks Eric. Pours a transparent, ruby, copper with a creamy, lacing, slightly beige head. Aroma much like an IIPa, pine, grapefruit, with some dark brown sugar and sweet baked goods. Heavy mouthfeel with a lasting bitterness and a bit of heat. Flavor is malt forward, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, dark fruits and some chewy grains. Definite citrus flavors of lemons and pine. Looks good, tastes good, good beer.

It’s 4:59 AM. I should be asleep, but I went to a party tonight and haven’t been home long. So, it’s way too early or late. It’s one of those. But either way, it’s rating #400. It’s also my first ever Utah beer. And this rating 400 comes from the generosity of footbalm, who kindly spread some "hometown" brew across the nation. I missed chances to try Uinta a time or three before, and nearly missed it again, until footbalm gloriously came through... for free! You seriously rock, Eric!
Light for a barleywine... reddish brown with medium head. Retention and lacing are good. Caramel toffee aroma with strong citrus and pine hops. (Damn, the birds just started chirping... I really need to go to bed.) Taste is big spicy hops. Vanilla, caramel finish. Very nice beer.

Golden, sparkly, with a rich head and nice lacing. Mossy hop aroma - very green. Moderately bitter body with grassy Germanic hop notes. Light straw malts. Clean, brisk and refreshing example.

Foxy-amber with a yellowish head. Toffee and faraway hops, a bit nutty in character. Nutty again in the taste, bready, but with a watery finish, falling flat. Bit spritzy, but also a bit empty. Ho-hum, not really great.

Another hookup from douglas88, 12 oz. bottle, bottled 11/7/07. Pours nice amber, with a brief head. Clean malt smell is just starting to show some papery oxidation around the edges. Still shows a nice, amber malty taste, like a good lawnmower/bowling alley beer. Sticky texture, a bit nutty and bready, with a calm, assured noble hop background. Another example of how to make a decent lower-alcohol beer.

12 oz. bottle, thanks to Douglas88. Pours dark amber color with a good half-inch head in my common shaker glass. Shows a "clean" beer smell with some mineral water to it. Taste shows some amber malt, not much wheat spiciness. Kind of dry, without much bitterness. Mouthfeel gets a little thin. But then some peppery hops come through, showing this is a European style, after all. Just pleasant, but that’s okay. We’ve already found some better beers out of Utah.

12 oz bottle, XIV Vintage, shared by Gregis. Bottled on 7/10/07. Pour is ruby-orange brown with a nice dirty white head. Aroma of bright citrus (orange) hoppiness with a round, soft melting caramel sweetness. Taste is big, bitter and sweet. Quite a bit of carbonation. Less sweetness than the nose would have suggested, but still very present. This was quite nice, I was surprised at the amount of bitter hoppiness present with the age. Highlight on this one was the nose.

12 oz bottle from trade with douglas88, who’s spreading the Utah love. "Bottled on 9/06/07" Pours a nice hazy pale ale coppery yellow with a thin clingy head. Light malt smell, with citrusy hop twang. Taste is pretty nice. Tiny points of carbonation give this a "fluffy" feel. Crystal malts balance with a strong but respectful citrus hop load. Notes of lemon and orange, basil, and, somehow, a little hint of oak. If you can’t up the alcohol in Utah, blitz ’em with some hops. Sessionable, but a little hearty for cooler days, too.
