Description

(Bottle, Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 27 July 2013) Dark reddish brown colour with huge, dense, beige head. Malty, slightly smoky nose with notes of caramel, dark fruit, asphalt and dark bread. Malty taste with dark fruit, caramel, asphalt, a touch of smoke and a certain spicy bitterness. Almost full body, with a touch of sweetness. Quite complex and a bit weird. Quite nice though.

Bottle. It pours an unclear, orange to golden body and a dense, white head. Weak aroma with pale malts, chalk and some citrus peel. Pretty much the same in the flavor, some bitterness towards the finish. Not my choice of beer, but it’s drinkable. 130906

(Draught at Drie Dorstige Herten, Utrecht, 25 July 2013) Reddish amber colour with frothy beige head, leaving traces of lacing. Malty, fruity nose with resin, blood orange and toasty malt. Malty, hoppy taste with notes of toasty malt, caramel, blood orange, black-currant and a generous citric, resinous bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with balanced sweetness. Solid and well made IPA. Nice one.

330ml bottle. Minimally cloudy, dark orangey golden colour with average, frothy to macropore, diminishing, minimally lacing, white head. Fruity, yeasty aroma, hints of tangerine, gooseberry, grainy, grassy, and mossy overtones remind of a lawn in spring. Taste is dry fruity, hints of gooseberry, rhubarb, a strawy touch, minimally tart and astringent. Untypical, hop-emphasized Heller Bock with disregarded malt side.

The aroma is a bit stale and cheesy. Luckily it does not spoil the flavour too much. Flavour has some bitter citrus peel and is fresher and less sweet than a typical Tripel.

Tap at the Haarlem Beer Festival 2013. Poured a hazy bright orange with a frothy white head. The aroma is of dry yeast leading to a strong bitter flavour, with lots of hoppy notes and a little yeast on the smooth and refreshing palate.
