Description

Sampled @ Pint Winterbierfestival Gouda, 2016. Almost opaque dark brown color, average sized beige head. Smell and taste malts, brown malts, light malt bitter. Too much carbonation, fizzy, and i don’t get any sherry. Disappointing.

0.33 l bottle from ’Tabak’s Wijndiscount & Bierwinkel’, best before May 2017. Hazy, dark red amber with a medium large, foamy, slowly diminishing, tan head. Faint, sweetish-malty, slightly fruity aroma of caramel, brown sugar, nuts and hints of raisins. Sweet, malty and slightly fruity taste of brown sugar, caramel, chocolate and hints of raisins, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, minimally roasty finish with some metallic notes. Medium to full body, creamy to effervescent mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Really tasty although rather one-dimensional, but again too much carbonation which swirls up all the yeast in the bottle.

33cl bottle. Poured jet black with a thin brown head. Licorice root, soy sauce sticky, oily stuff. Roasted, bit ashy flavor. Quite sweet, don’t really mind the soy here. Hides abv nicely. Balanced.

0.33 l bottle from ’Sterk Avondverkoop’, best before October 2016. Clear, golden amber with a huge, frothy, stable (almost growing), white head. Sweetish-fruity, yeasty-spicy aroma of clove, peach, bubblegum and some marzipan. Sweetish, yeasty-spicy, slightly fruity taste of peach, clove, bubblegum, some marzipan and licorice, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, yeasty-spicy and dry finish. Medium body, spritzy and effervescent mouthfeel, very lively carbonation. Rather sweet for a Saison, leans towards a BSA. Tasty nevertheless, carbonation is again too high (likely one of their older batches).

Black. Aroma is fruity and sweet with some blackberry coming through. Carbonation is too intense and aggressive. Warming flavours of sweet red fruits. The overcarbonation limits flavour development on the palate and stops this from being a very good beer.
