Description
The Obergärige Hausbrauerei Uerige (top-fermented craft brewery) is not a museum, but an exceedingly modern food business where a craft rich in centuries of tradition is carried out. It goes without saying that the Reinheitsgebot, or Purity Law dating from 1516, is still adhered to, because its results are good and lasting, relying, as it does, on nature as one of its main factors. Which is exactly what we do, too: our yummy droplet is made of nothing but water, barley, wheat malt, and our Uerige yeast.

Einzigartig!

11.2 ounce swing top bottle.
It pours a very dark brown with reddish hues with a 1 finger head of tannish foam.
Big caramel malt in the nose, very sweet smelling, kind of a maple syrup sweetness.
Sweet, for sure in the taste, it also brings a close to bitter dark chocolate flavour that’s very nice; cuts the sweetness. I’m getting some raisin like flavour and hints of other dark fruits.
I’d call this full bodied as it’s very thick and luxurious to my palate. Lightish carbonation.
Wow, this is a grand brew, very enjoyable and satisfying.

Uerige’s strongest Alt, the ’premium’ version of Uerige Sticke, so to speak. Seasonal beer made with Munich malts and a secret ’hop tea’; very heavy for the style. Light beige, stable, dense, sticky head, colour a very dark brownish bronze, clear with subtle sparkling. Rich aroma of sweet fruits and bitter spices, very agreeable perfume, plums, chocolate, pear syrup, sage, old ’jenever’, pine resin, whisky, walnuts, coffee beans, jute, bark. Taste is Altbier all around but in a reinforced kind of way, with red fruits, thick nutty and chocolatey malts, silky, slick mouthfeel, pure with medium carbo, very spicy and earthy hop bitterness in the finish reinforced, but nowhere hindered, by a warming bourbon-like alcohol effect. This was very memorable - one of the best German beers I had so far and certainly the best Alt.

Shared by KyotoLefty at the Hanshin Seed Event. An opaque almost muddy brown pour. Great nose of candied plum, port, sweet dark fruits. Medium to light bodied. The taste is malty, boozy, sweet caramel, dark pitted fruits. A bit of that tannic oaky quality to it. Very interesting.

Done decently with light roast malt and a great grain profile consistent for style. Pours orange. Light bitter finish. Hint of hops and some citrus here. Good stuff. Tap at Max’s.
