Description
The Obergärige Hausbrauerei Uerige (top-fermented craft brewery) is not a museum, but an exceedingly modern food business where a craft rich in centuries of tradition is carried out. It goes without saying that the Reinheitsgebot, or Purity Law dating from 1516, is still adhered to, because its results are good and lasting, relying, as it does, on nature as one of its main factors. Which is exactly what we do, too: our yummy droplet is made of nothing but water, barley, wheat malt, and our Uerige yeast.

Blainchard’s Liquors, Boston 11.2oz ($6): I have been waiting a long time to try this beer and now that I finally had a chance, it was pretty much what I expected. I think that the ’Sticke’ is probably one of the best beers ever made, and the doppel might be too much of a good thing. Pours a brownish color with an off-white head. Aroma is a whole lot of malts, caramel, sugar, and a not negligible amount of hops. Taste is thick and not quite syrupy. It is plenty sweet, but the hops are present around the finish of this beer. The description claiming that this is like a German barley wine is pretty much spot on. Sticke is also really fun to say.

(Botlle, 0.5 l - Abülltag 28.03, at One Pint Pub, Helsinki, 20110625) The beer poured golden and quite cloudy. Its head was medium sized, white, long lasting and dense. Aroma had fruitiness, tartness and citricness. Palate was light bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, citricness, sweetness, tartness and bitterness. Aftertaste was fruity and bitter. A really fruity brew which would have benefited from a fuller body.

RBESG 2010, bottle at Brasserie 4:20
Hazy red-dark amber color. Initially the aroma is puckery, then some malt, hop, oxidized malt. Flavor of mildly roasted malts, light black malt; dry and dusty; medium bitterness, deriving from the roasted malts too. Not good.

Tasty altbier that does its damndest to act like a Barleywine. Big and thick and super-malty, yet with a bitter, European finish that keeps the brew from becoming a bottle of maple syrup. Huge caramel and toffee malt meets with a tiny bit of dried fruit sweetness, but it grows dry and doughy before sliding into a boozy, bitter finish. Good palate, good beer, great bottle. (4/27/09)

Tap @ Moeder Lambic. cuivre, col épais beige. Nez et palais avec une subtile touche d’aigreur fruitée., fini est sec, palais garde une touche de grains, malt donnant une bonne note de caramel pour une bière qui reste légère en bouche.
