Description
The Obergärige Hausbrauerei Uerige (top-fermented craft brewery) is not a museum, but an exceedingly modern food business where a craft rich in centuries of tradition is carried out. It goes without saying that the Reinheitsgebot, or Purity Law dating from 1516, is still adhered to, because its results are good and lasting, relying, as it does, on nature as one of its main factors. Which is exactly what we do, too: our yummy droplet is made of nothing but water, barley, wheat malt, and our Uerige yeast.

"Odd flip top shaped bottle 11.2 oz. In a big 22 oz shapely beerglass. Hazy lighter brown color. Farmy musty barnyard olfactory with a strong alky base aroma of caramel and sweet candy. Oooh, quite a strong initial alky experience. Rather nock you off your pleasant contentment feeling. Rather strong initially, did I say that already? Aroma gets more farmlike as the session continues. Definately a stronger beer but it becomes more acceptable as the session moves past the inception. inish is surprisingly acceptable for a stronger beer. leaves an overal good experience. S6L4F2T4O12"

2006 bottle that poured murky brown with copper hues and off white head. The aroma is sweet and rich with ample amounts of chewy dark fruity esters, caramel and rich malts. The taste is much the same and seems silky smooth bringing in flavor notes on a dark velvet carpet. I get rich smooth dark fruitiness, some creamy sweet caramel and a background of faint yet sweet malts. Very nice. I would mistake this for an English style barleywine in a blind tasting. YUM. In fact I need to get more of this.

2006 bottle courtesy of retorp. Pours clear brown with white head. Aroma of caramel malts. Taste has plenty of good malt and caramel. Strong fruity presence with sugary undertones. A fine Altbier and with this abv, it is just very enjoyable.

2002 bottle courtesy of retorp. Pours clear brown with thin white head. Aroma is fruity and has a damn enjoyable sugary nose. Taste malty, caramel with a light hoppy mouthfeel reminding me of a pilsner. Light touch of dark fruits - cherry - A fine Altbier

bottle, díky pivnizube! Dark brwon colour, slightly hazy, medium-sized beige head. Intensive malty nose. Full-bodied, intensively malty and hoppy at the same time. Typical Altbier flavours, but more intensive than usual. Hints of chocolate, nuts and raisins. Resiny-grassy hops balance this off. A delicious brew.

(10/16/08) Bottle at friends’ house in Philadelphia. Hazy dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma of lots of malt and caramel, a bit of cookies, a bit of alcohol and some vinous fruity notes. Sweet malty flavor with caramel, some dark fruits (plums notes, some grapes) and a bitter dry finish with some slightly herbal hops, a light citric touch and a bit of alcohol. Medium to full-bodied. Really interesting stuff. I like it.

Sample at the Columbus Ratebeer gathering at ogglethorp’s 11/20/08: This Altbier is a pale amber-orange color with a medium and creamy beige head that recedes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Malty aroma with notes of dark fruit and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of malt, molasses and hops. Warming alcohol is evident at times. The finish is full and malty with a bittersweet malt and hops aftertaste. Another enjoyable Alt from this brewer.

Bottle. Dark brown color with deep red hues and a very bubbly medium-sized head. Aroma of toasted malt, nuts, fruits, light floral hints and some slightly herbal hops. Sweetish malty flavor with some toasted bread, caramel, nuts (including some chestnut notes) and a bitter herbal finish with faint earthy notes. Medium-bodied. A good quaffable beer, I hope I’ll get to try some more Stickes in the future.

previously tested on German BTO 04/2007: Dank an MoritzF! Auch das gefilterte, normale Alt von Uerige überzeugt. Ähnlich herb-bittter, wie das zuvor getestete uUngefilterte, zeigt es ähnlichen Charakter. Deutliche Hopfennoten, untermalt von Röstmalz.
