Description
The Obergärige Hausbrauerei Uerige (top-fermented craft brewery) is not a museum, but an exceedingly modern food business where a craft rich in centuries of tradition is carried out. It goes without saying that the Reinheitsgebot, or Purity Law dating from 1516, is still adhered to, because its results are good and lasting, relying, as it does, on nature as one of its main factors. Which is exactly what we do, too: our yummy droplet is made of nothing but water, barley, wheat malt, and our Uerige yeast.

previously tested on BTO 04/2007: Dank an MoritzF!

Funky cool bottle. Took a while to figure out whether this was the Sticke or the Alt... but the Uerige website was helpful. Pour is a medium brown with a fairly large head at first (almost a light brown color) but it has all but died in the time it took me to figure out which beer this was. Aromas are earthy, with sweetness that is brown sugar and dates. Flavor is odd... I expected things to be sweet from the aroma, but there is a sharp bitter edge throughout, and the finish is especially jagged. Allmost comes off as peat on the finish. This is an odd beer that just doesn’t work for me.

On tap at the GBBF 2008. Dark brown colour, low head. Nice aroma of caramel and butterscotch. "Dusty" flavour, malty with a noticeable hoppy finish.

Pours deep amber into an altbier glass. Fluffy off-white head with good retention leaves sheet lacing as it recedes. Dark carame, breadl and malt aromas. Soft upfront turning fizzy with deep, dark caramel. Lasting bitter finish.

A clear dark brown beer with a thick dissipating light moka head. A nice aroma of licorice, dried dark fruits and warming alcohol. In mouth, loads of licorice, warming alcohol, burned coffee beans, lingering in mouth. Rich bodied. Shared with Probstk. Thanks Karl for sharing this with me.

Bottle from Once Upon a Vine North in Richmond. Clear brown pour with a medium head and good lacing. Very strong grain aroma with a hint of bitterness. Big grain taste w/ dark fruit notes, nuttiness, and big bitterness.

Listed at 6%. Pours with a small, off-white, rocky head covering a slightly murky brown body. Some lacing left over. Aroma has some raisins, dark fruits and sweet malts. Taste is odd, buttery corn, some DMS, smoked elements, rochefort notes, and completely lacks any sweetness whatsoever. Savory and some hints of oxidation. I am not sure how to treat this as it is only my second Alt, and I am not sure how true to the style the other one I had was. This is very drinkable, but no sweetness is very different after all the barely wines that I have been drinking recently.

11.2 oz; bottled on 05.07. Dark caramel aroma. Ruby color with fine particles (or something) dispersed throughout. Beautiful. Beige head. Seems full bodied, and the carbonation is creamy. Flavor is something more than caramel. Sort of roasted. There’s bitter. Very good finish as the bitter builds up somewhat. Actually fairly bitter. Good tasting drink.

(From long backlog in my notebook. Bottle in One Pint Pub on 2007-12-31.) Darkish colour. Its body is full and so is its taste. Malts can be tasted clearly and there is some hints of hops, too. I liked this.
