Description
The Obergärige Hausbrauerei Uerige (top-fermented craft brewery) is not a museum, but an exceedingly modern food business where a craft rich in centuries of tradition is carried out. It goes without saying that the Reinheitsgebot, or Purity Law dating from 1516, is still adhered to, because its results are good and lasting, relying, as it does, on nature as one of its main factors. Which is exactly what we do, too: our yummy droplet is made of nothing but water, barley, wheat malt, and our Uerige yeast.

Deep brown color, with a decent off white head. The aroma is fresh hops, reminiscent of an IPA. The flavor is smoothly bitter with a dry finish. Very nice, but not as nice as their Sticke.

Deep glowing brown color, almost cola-like with a minimal tan head that settles into an off white ring at the top of the glass. The aroma is like toasted mashmallows. Caramel flavor with just a touch of bitterness in the finish. Light bodied with a medium mouthfeel. An easy drinking brew.

2004 bottle. Wonderful burnished copper color, with a small beige head. Quite bubbly and filtered unfortunately; crystal clear. Aroma of dry hay, some light leather tannins, a bit of metal, lightly bitter, soily hops. Flavor is dry, old tasting, with those soily hops and lightly doughy yeast taking mainstage. Plenty of toasted malt in the back. Body is medium with an unspectacular finish, albeit fairly clean. Nothing to write home about it seems, but a well-made beer.

Red copper beer with almost no carbonation or head. But the aroma! Nice hops come out, which is surprising for a german brew. Taste is very complex wih a nice malty start and a lingering german hops finish, but everything is there very subtely. This is like the fine beer, very "racée" yet very fresh. Not bored at all...a big big thanks for the MaibockAddict himself .

Well, I paid homage to the German part of my heritage tonight with a couple freshly tapped pints of Sticke Alt and a few fried Goetta meatballs here at Steinkeller in Oxford. I enjoyed the Goetta, but the beer was the real treat. Poured from the tap a deep red-brown color with a thick, creamy tan head that left abundant lacing on the glass. Aroma is always difficult to detect in the bar setting, but caramel and toast were evident. The flavor was subtle yet rich and opened up as the beer warmed (it was quite cold at the beginning). Rich layers of caramel, toast, brown sugar and hints of fruit (a touch of grape, a hint of cherry) led to a surprisingly bitter earthy hops finish with metallic notes. As the beer warmed the sweet caramely malts and toast became more dominant. Very rich mouthfeel- this is one smooth beverage. Glad I made it to Steinkeller for the 8:00 tapping- the keg was empty at 8:29! Thanks Rick (clmojo) for the updates (and that glass of Kulmbacher)!

I've been looking for a replacement for the awesome Blimp City Akron/Macon Ale since they went out of business, and I think I have found it! The beer is a dark brown/amber with an ultra thin off-white head. Very little lacing. The aroma is nice and full, with caramel, malt and sweet fruit. Medium-bodied and very drinkable with a pleasing blend of flavors such as malt, raisin, caramel and hops. The finish is the only place it falls off a little. There is a slight metallic tinge to the fruity finish that was out of character with the beer. A slightly bigger hops finish would make it nearly perfect. As it stands though, this is one of the better Alts I have had.

My bottle had the same numbers as the one at left (29.01 on top and 29.02 on the bottom). Good soft light brown color, with some light ambers and fuzzy peaches. Aroma of soft fuzzy hops, lightly sticky caramel malt and some damp musty basement notes. The flavor was soft, mild and lightly warming, but the mouthfeel blew me away. This is the epitome of soft, even delicateness, without being thin. Lightly sweet throughout, (light caramel, light brown fruits) and a hint of brown sugar perhaps. Hops are smooth and nowhere near as bitter as I would expect from this. Extremely drinkable, supremely balanced and I can't say I noticed any alcohol. Has a faint peachy warming sensation on the finish after it has warmed considerably. Exquisite.

Clear and light brown color, medium head. Aroma is caramel malts, bit hoppy, quite typical alt. Sweet taste, bitter, bit fruity. Sticky and a bit dry palate. Decent altbier.

(bottled 2003 version) Chestnut brown, orange shine; yellow-brown head, not very ample. Nose is surprisingly dominated by caramel-aroma; some chocolate and a vague shrubbery aroma. Taste is very bitter; combination of hops and roasted malts, flavours of hopoil, black chocolate, cookies, but some cardboard too. Quite well-bodied, bitterness is not long-lasting but more instantaneous, coming up very hoppy and than fading away. It's my second time to taste Sticke, first time bottled. But the impression is the same as the draught on the premisses: I strangely prefer the regular Alt! That is more honest hops, and the ultimate drinking ale (Westmalle Extra possibly excluded). It's still extremely good all the same - shame about the lame nose.

Amber, bubbly real ale head - honeycomb- and it is of course. Quite bitter and hoppy up front, with a lot of breadcrust and whole grain bread sweetness as well. Maybe less yeast complexity than Schlssel but a flavoursome ale nonetheless.
