On tap at What’s Brewing. It pours a small, off-white head over a lightly unclear amber colored body. Ginger,cardamom and caramel in the aroma. The flavor has some sweetness, but it’s actually rather dry on the palate. Ginger, cardamom and caramel too. Some bitterness towards the end. Medium body and a pleasant carbonation level. Lasting spiced finish. Not bad at all, but it could use some more spices I think. 141031

0,33L bottle (from Koht), batch 037, BB 08.06.15. Pours golden-amber with off-white head. Aroma is fruits, citrus, grapefruit, caramel, pine. Flavor is fruits, citrus, orange, grapefruit, caramel, and malt. Finish is citric bitter. Overall: good fruity IPA. Not much (if any) tequila in it, I also didn’t really get lemons (more grapefruit, orange). Rating: 7:3:7:3:14=3.3 (rated 31.12.2014). Batch 293, BB 22.02.17. Pours golden amber with whiteish head. Aroma is fruity, citrus, lemon peel, orange. Flavor is sweet and bitter, wheat, citrus, lemon, orange. Finish is dry and lemon peel bitter with hint of tequila like notes. Overall: this is good, bit sweet maybe, but noticeably better than the first batch.

0,33L bottle, batch 038, BB 12.06.15. Pours clear golden with white head. The head doesn’t stay. Aroma is sour, sweet and popcorn. Flavor follows the nose. Body is watery. Overall: no bueno. Too much like liquid popcorn for me. I think this is actually overrate in the hedonistic scale (it smelled bad and was undrinkable), but at least I can assume that Põhjala didn’t put any artificial crap in my beer. I have had 2 Berliner Weisse’s before, although they weren’t very classic takes of the style, they were at least drinkable, this is not.

Pours dark coper. Not clear, not hazy. Only a small layer of foam. Aroma is bittersweet, slightly spicy. Taste is spicy as well, fills mouth with ginger bitterness, giving this beer an extra dimension. Aftertaste resembles some gingerbread, more ginger and cloves. Exciting seasonal brew, perfect for harvesting times.

Pours black with a brown thick head that comes down. leaving nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is quite thick, full roast and a bit sweet. It’s quite simple though, maybe with some chocolate and coffee. It drinks smooth, sweet and velvety, you can feel that 10% only at the end in the aftertaste. Some hop bitterness also there, lingering with roast flavours for some time. Good beer, drinks easy, not too complex - but I guess I was expecting more complexity. Compared with the old version (as much as I can remember) the body feels lighter, is less pronounced and maybe less fruity. I have no notes from the old version though, so this is from my more than year-long taste memory.

(Keg at Põrgu, 20141227) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized, dense, lightly brown and it lasted long. Aroma had liquorice, burnt malts, ash and chocolate. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were liquorice, burnt malts, sweetness, ash, pine and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt, sweet and bitter. A somewhat boozier version of Öö.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - batch 038 - BB 120615, at Drink Baar, 20141227) The beer poured golden and lightly hazy. Its head was small and it disappeared quickly. Aroma had sourness, sweetness, fruitiness and tartness. Palate was light bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were sourness, tartness, fruitiness, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, tart and bitter. A decent berliner weisse, too sweet perhaps.

(Keg at Hopner, 20141227) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, citricness, lemon peel and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, lemon peel, citricness, grass, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was citric, hoppy and bitter and a little bit harsh. Nice brew the finish of which didn’t match the whole.

0,33L bottle (from Tartu Kaubamaja), batch 040, BB 22.12.15. Pours black with no head. Aroma is roast, dark chocolate, coffee, cognac like notes. Flavor is sweet and bitter, roast, dark chocolate, port wine like notes. Finish is dark chocolate. Alcohol is well covered for the ABV. Overall: great brew. Had another bottle and I didn’t enjoy it as much as last time. Still a very good brew, but flavor is not as enjoyable as the previous time.
