Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.

We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.

In hops we trust!

Bottle shared at chriso’s pre-Christmas tasting. Pours deep brown with a thick, frothy beige head. The nose has mellow roast, earth, some wood, coffee. Medium sweet flavor with some marshmallows, cocoa, dark berries, dirt, bitter earth. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately sweet on the finish with some toasted marshmallows, subtle vanilla, bitter chocolate, toasty bread. Very nice.

Pours dark brown, has a bit of foam. Chocolaty aroma, sweet dark fruits. Taste is spicy and sweet, rye comes out quite nicely. Dried dark fruits, and hops giving a nice kick in the throat. Getting really nice when it warms, spices on the tongue. Warming and drinks really easy.

330 ml bottle from the first batch. Pours dark brown, a bit of foam. Aroma is dry, hops earthy. Some roast and bitter chocolate also there. Taste is chocolaty, has some coffee and hop stings. Very nice. Long aftertaste of bitter and biting chocolate. I don’t know, I can’t get this chocolate out of my head, at the end it even feels like having a toffee chocolate cake - just minus the sweetness.

Bottle 330ml with "black" cap
Thanks Anna. Deep ruby color, small steady off-white head. Raisins, date, caramalt in the nose - clearly developed. Medium-bodied. Quite Belgian abbey dubbel flavor: raisins, dates, light alcohol, toffee. Can’t quite remember the first one I had but I think this has improved. This is a good beer.

Pitch black color with dark brown head. The nose shows some dark chocolate notes with some wood. Fairly sweet with lots of espresso notes and dark chocolate, low carbonation and smooth. Doesn’t take me anywhere special, but it is fairly good.

Cloudy medium amber color. Big frothy white head. HUGE grapefruity nose with tons of citrus, very hoppy clearly defined nose. Really nice that was clearly dry hopped. Medium body, very aggressively hopped, but decent enough backbone. Big bitter finish. WoW, in your face IPA that is confident and powerful.
