The founder of the brewery was a doctor in medicine, Louis Nevejan.

We have recently found papers in the archives stating that the first building dates from 1835 AD. Once it was both a brewery and distillery. The founder died in 1882 and the brewery was sold to Alouis Costenoble. The family brewed for three generations until 1980 when the brewery stopped.

Beer brands included COQ PILS OUD BRUIN & COSMOS. In Esen there were six breweries (all small and part-time) and two distilleries. The actual brewer is doing historical research on West-Flanders breweries since 1900 AD, and has got the 'GOLDEN HAMMER' Trophy, a two yearly award for historic research on breweries. This was attributed by vzw 't Hamerken in Bruges on March 27, 2000 AD

Tasted sep3 2025 from tap (crazy)
Cloudy yellow brown with a small white head
Yeast and old sljghtly oxidized hops and subtle fruity notes from. Yeast i think. Flavor is caramelly and yeasty and very complex fruity, parts of the flavors of red and sweet citrus fruits, but not the whole. Abv well hidden and very mellow and rounded compared to a younger stille nacht. Not sure i ever tasted one 14 years old. Certainly not from. Tap

Goudgeel helder bier met mooie stevige schuimkraag.
Aroma is hoppig en fruitig.
Smaak is hoppig en citrusachtig.
Nasmaak is bitter.

1989 (!) Only three check-ins of this beer, and they were all from the same night. Apparently brewed for a long-gone restaurant. Grape must, whiff of apple, sweet malts, low hop bitterness. Surprisingly not awful! Inside of cap is a beautiful dark black😆

Superficial tasting at company beer tasting. Amber body under a big, foamy head. Aroma of malt, caramel, ripe berries and Belgium yeast. Taste is smooth and complex, very typical classic Belgium dubbel and quad. Sweet malt with caramel, slightly acid berries, and Belgium spicy yeast. Notes of candy. Nice and vinous.

Bottle thanks to Turd: Poured a translucent orange with a white head. Aroma is boozy, toffee, dark fruit, pungent. Taste is woodsy, boozy, tangy, fruits, sticky, lingers around my palate.

Transparent, rich honey, thin lace.
Muted, lemon black tea, lingering sharp & old herbal hop essence.
Tannic, veggie, black tea, oatmeal, lightly sharp, round, lemon wedge.
Past its prime but I can see what was here.

Az üvegből és a pohárból is kifutó hab, zavaros, borostyán szín. Gabonás, enyhén korianderes és citrusos illat. Enyhén édeskés, malátás, gabonás, korianderes, leheletnyit citrusos íz. Egy kicsit alkoholos. Testes, enyhén szénsavas, enyhén keserű. Finom íze van, de nem tetszik az alkoholossága.

French oak version. Just fabulous. Tastes a bit more expressive than the other version, softer and more elegant. Dried dark fruits, deep red notes, tart and vinous. Candy licorice, kriek, juicy red grapes, wet wood, slightly tart. The epitome of balance.

Bottle ,nine months after bottling . Pours clear golden, with an enormous creamy head. Aroma is sweet estery notes of stone fruits, orange peel and kandi, bready malts, as well as floral hops with spices and leafy minerals. Full body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is malts with bread, hay and heather, as well as fruity yeast with stone fruits, plums, citrusy notes and kandi. Sweet grassy minerals in the finish.
