Black color. Dark aroma, leather, very lightly cheesy. Strong body, dark chocolate bar, roasted nuts, some leather, some spices. Nice degree of complexity, very good.

375mL bottle, pours a jet oil black with a small beige head. Aroma is like motor oil, with lots of roasted malt and jet fuel. Flavour is along the same lines, with motor oil, sickly sweet bitterness and some roast. Not terribly complex and very oily. It's alright.

Ruddy brown. No head. Aroma is plum, old balsamic, the palate more to the sweeter port and almond character. Interesting. Nice little old ale.

Dark brown with a thin dark brown head. Aroma shows a touch of inkiness in its dark fruit and molasses. Very rich, deep burnt fruits, the blackest blackstrap, and a punch of alcohol. Some deep rich impy right here.

Cloudy dull tan. Not much head, but it was poured into a frozen glass. Aroma has bubblegum, and slightly plasticy phenols. Doesn’t have much body. There’s some yeast, has maybe a touch if orangey character but overall is dull, lifeless and lacks the typical characteristics of the style.

375 ml corked and caged bottle. Pours a inky black color topped by a small creamy tan head. Big roasted malt aroma has prune and chocolate notes. Thick viscous mouthfeel. Flavor is intense bittersweet chocolate and licorice. Warming alcohol in midtaste. Cloying sweet roasted malt and resiny hops in finish.

Bottle @ home, via trade with a Brazilian pal. Thanks! The wax was a mess to remove and the cork splintered. I had to play with a few wine openers for 5-10 minutes to get the cork out in one piece. Pours a somewhat hazy orangish brown appearance with little head. The aroma is incredibly tannic and very port-like. Tons of caramel, brown sugar, heavy leather, and earth. The mouth feel is a little oily. Somewhat boozy. Caramel, light banana, pear, white grape, and thick leather. It kind of reminds me of Samuel Adams Triple Bock but this is much better in my opinion. That being said, I’m not crazy about this beer. A little twangy. Ok.

Bottle courtesy of rlgk. Pours tiny hazy amber with a small ring of goldenish offwhite head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty with caramel, toffee, charred wood, raisins, dates, raisins, moist soil, minerals and madeira alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter and malty. Mouthfeel is flat, round, astringent, slightly boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with caramel, toffee, charred wood, dark dried fruits, leather, burnt prunes, moist soil, dried pine needles and hints of alcohol. Solid English dried fruit heavy barley wine. --- Beer merged from original tick of EAP Barley Wine 2014 on 12 Feb 2016 at 23:47 - Score: 7. Original review text: Nice malt and dried fruit notes. Solid English barley wine.
