Bottle. Color: Copper, thin off-white head. Aroma: Sweetish, toffee, figs, nuts, alcohol. Taste: Malty, caramel, toffee, herbal notes, alcohol. Sweetish, bit alcoholic and moderate to medium bitter caramel and nuts finish. Hints of liquorice. Over medium body, low carbonation. Like an old ale. Some complexity, nicely balanced. No top beer, but pretty good.

Tap at So Good in Rome. Hazy apricot skin pour (cloudy), little white foam not persistent. Nose: fruit pulp, soft wheat with peppery-coriander overall. Mouth: more wheat feel, banana, soft carbonation and coriander.

Italian dark barleywine, from tap at Dok Brewing Company in Ghent. Regularly shaped, creamy, opening, pale yellowish beige, stable head over a very dark bronze beer with hazy burgundy glow. Aroma of caramel sauce, candied fig, raisin bread, cola, raw red cabbage, ruby port, hazelnut oil, dried banana and a splash of rainwater. Sweet onset, candied figs and dates, baked banana, softish carb, thick and rounded, full mouthfeel, yet lacking in the vinous quality I expect from anything labelled as a barleywine. Caramelly and peanutty malt sweet body with a deeper, darker chocolatey edge, lingering fruity notes but otherwise fairly clean, light spicy aspect in the finish with some leafy hop bitterness, a toasty touch and port-like, warming alcohol. Not a barleywine to me but a quadrupel – these styles are often confused especially in a Belgian context, which I think served as the source of inspiration here, bit straightforward but clean and technically well executed.

0,15l from tap at Arrogant Sour Festival, shared by Iznogud, big thanks. As "Dolii Raptor Barrique 10,8%". Reddish hazy color, small off white head. Smells medical, vanilla, earthy, some fruit notes, light yoghurt. Nice smell overall. Full body, light carbonation, slick mouthfeel. Tastes nutty, marzipan, wood, some vanilla, bit earthy, some wine notes, fruit. Finishes lightly dry and lightly sour with notes of wood, vanilla and marzipan notes. Very nice one, the beer was almost a bit too long on the barrel but overall very nice 7, 4, 8, 4, 16

Tap @Scurreria in Genoa-Italy. Amber light misty pour, rose head. Nose: wood and leather, sourish feel. Mouth: easy ina way, rasperries, mild tart.

On tap @So Good in Rome-Italy. Black color with an ivory medium foam. Nose: ripped prunes, dried fruit, Belgian character, cherries. Mouth: a smokey/burnt malts feel, clean body, round Belgian strong character, the finish is quite peppery although a bit thin.

Bottle, vintage 2016. Pours cloudy amber. Aroma is peach, vinegar, funk, almost metallic. Body is medium, still peaches, some sourness and softly tart. Feels a bit unfermented and light. Thinnish and a bit watery. Probably better when fresh.

Il gusto al naso viene attratto dal fruttato. L'olfatto viene stimolato in maniera normale, permanendo in maniera sufficiente. Il cappello di schiuma resiste poco. La grandezza delle bollicine è medio-fine, con qualche bollicina media. Il liquido è di apparenza velata. Il colore è ambrato. Il corpo è pieno. L'amaro è discreto e c'è anche una componente leggermente acidula. La forza gustativa è elevata e la permanenza è buona. Le sensazioni boccali finali risultano di birra beverina. Il retrogusto è di decente intensità. Sulla lingua si attestano sentori di caramello, miele, frutta secca, agrumi, spezie, arancia, erbe aromatiche, pepe bianco, rabarbaro e zenzero.

Il gusto al naso viene catturato dal luppolo. L'intensità olfattiva è normale e la continuità olfattiva è sufficiente. Il cappello di schiuma ha una buona tenuta, è persistente e voluminosa. La grandezza delle bollicine è media. La carbonazione è abbondante. Il liquido appare cristallino. Bollicine medio-fini costituiscono la forma del perlage. Qui la carbonazione è eccessiva. Il colore è ramato. Il corpo è rotondo. L'amaro è non invasivo. L'intensità gustativa è elevata con continuità sufficiente. Le sensazioni boccali che permangono sfociano in un finale di pronta beva. Il retrogusto è di media intensità. Al palato arrivano impressioni di caramello, miele, cereali, frutta secca, fiori e agrumi.

Il gusto al naso viene catturato dal luppolo. L'intensità olfattiva è elevata e la continuità olfattiva è apprezzabile. Il cappello di schiuma cremosa ha una buona tenuta, è persistente e voluminosa. La grandezza delle bollicine è media. Il liquido è di consistenza limpida. La frizzantezza si presenta sotto forma di bollicine medio-fini. Il colore è ambrato. Il corpo è pieno. L'amaro è carico. L'intensità gustativa è elevata. La costanza gustativa è buona. Il gusto è piacevole. Le sensazioni boccali che permangono sono luppolate.. Il finale è amarognolo. Il retrogusto è intenso. Al gusto vengono donati toni di caramello, miele, frutta secca, luppolo, resina, agrumi e pompelmo.
