Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

dark ruby color, small head, that dissapeared very quickly. Aroma is vey malty, lots of caramel, and some faint hops. Flavour is very malty, and bready, with some grains. Nice bitter finish, not sure why this is an old ale, to me it’s more of a strong english bitter. The hops really come through in the finish.

500 ml bottle, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.2%. Clear golden colour, large white head. Moderately malty aroma with hints of toffee, orange peel and coriander. Refreshing and pleasant flavour, medium dry, with notes of citric hops and orange peel, hints of coriander seeds, decent bittering hops. Well balanced and enjoyable.

Bottle from Asda. Clear golden body with no head. Steady carbonation. No lacing. Aroma of straw and grass. Flavour of metal and lemon. Thin body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. Tinny and not very nice. I threw out half of the bottle.
