Description

33cl Can at The Scrapyard. Hazy golden orange colour, white head. Aroma of a classic West-Coast IPA, resin, caramel, floral, weed. Flavour is very bitter, resin, weed, caramel, light fruity, floral, some lemon peel, light earthy, firm bitter finish. Medium bodied. Really good, but also very very bitter.

One of Oersoep’s several sour beers – the thing they do best, if you ask me – in collaboration with fellow ‘wild’ brewers Nevel, explicitly intended as a sour stout. Thanks to Erwin P. for sharing. Thin, pale greyish beige, mousy ring of a head, very dark brown robe, almost black in general appearance, with hazy mahogany edges. Aroma of sour apples, blackberries, damp earth, caramel, black cherry, ‘woody’ vanilla, elderberry juice, moldy acorn shells, toasted walnuts, decaying tree leaves, balsamic vinegar. Tart onset with a subtle sweetish (fig) core, souring blackberry- and blackcurrant-like aspects, fizzy carbonation, nut-shell- and somewhat black toast-like maltiness with a caramelly hint inside and a roasty-bitter tail, all dried by ongoing blackberry- and even balsamico-like sourness, leading to an earthy, bit ‘dirty’ finish with wet wood- and tree leaf-like aspects as well as solventy, glue- or even varnish-like side effects. Delivers what it promises, a sour stout indeed, could do with a tad less solvent effects but generally works just fine for me.

1/XI/19 - on tap @ Bar Beenhouwer, the weekend without kids - (2019-xxx) Thanks to all for sharing today’s beers!
Clear dark red brown beer, small dense creamy beige head, stable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of brett, sourish, red berries, fruity, spicy. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: soft acidity up front, fruity, lots of berries, some vinegar, soft roast, pretty bitter, some tannins, grape skins. Aftertaste: spicy touch, soft roast, very fruity, lots of dark cherries, some alcohol, vinegar touch, not my favourite kind of beer, very roasted and sour with lots of tannins…
