Cask at The Craven Arms, Birmingham. A black coloured pour with a healthy beige head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate taste/aroma. Slightly burnt/ashy tasting stout, nice one.

Cask at the Handle Bar, Cradley Heath. Pours very pale gold with a medium head. Aroma is eggy straw. Taste has crisp straw and citrus.

Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a clear golden yellow colour with a bubbly white head. The aroma is malt, light citrus fruits. The flavour is moderate to light bitter, light sweet, with a light, slightly watery, malt, yeasty, light lemon citrus, light hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a snall foamy cream head. Roast malts, biscuits and treacle feature in the aroma, along with hints of floral hops. In the mouth it is fairly sweet, though a tad watery, and the hops are more prominent, being one of the mainstays of flavour along with roast malts. There’s also traces of balsam, cough mixture and herbs resulting in a medicinal finish. This is a bit unusual, but rather nice. [ PS not hoppy enough to be considered a Black IPA]

Cask at the Craven Arms, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a lasting frothy off-white head. The aroma is roasty malt, grassy hops. The flavour is moderate to light sweet and bitter, with a smooth, earthy, mineral, roasty, light grassy, woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Hand-pulled half-pint in The Pheasant Inn & brewhouse, Wellington Shropshire on 1st April 2022. Dark, red hue to the almost black body, cream coloured foam on top. Mild malty, chocolate nose and taste, not too sure where the hoppy bit comes in, pleasant enough but didn't have the hop kick I was expecting by it's description.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours a pale straw with a small white head and good lacing. Not much of an aroma – some vague citrus and grains. More bite in the mouth though where the texture is sweet. Flavour is mainly floral hops, but with traces of spice, pine and mango.. Plus quite a bit of pepper later on. Finish is somewhat dry. This is pretty a decent beer – properly hoppy unlike a lot of SIPAs.
