What the hell is wrong with you folks, you order a pepper beer and then aren’t happy when it is a perfect pepper beer? Clean, light white bread malts surround by peppers all around. The peppers are a bit hot but nothing too strong. I loved it, got a whole growler to go afterward.

Sampler @ brewpub. It has a clear but dark burgundy brown color and comes with no head but a bit of hairline halo white around the edge. Aroma is full of sweetness. dark fruits, alcohol. At this point I figured out its a doppelbock. Taste follows suite. It was in a rather weird place, way beyond the point of what a regular doppelbock should be but not far enough into the Samiclaus territory. I feel they need to either tone it down and bring it back to normal or make the full push to the dark side.

Sampler @ brewpub. Comes to me with a completely clear, dark straw color. The carbonation is visible and strong. Has a thick head that leaves a lightly sticky lacing. It looks very nice, I am surprised I could find beauty in a filtered beer but this works. Aroma is surprisingly a thick white bread maltiness with some lemon and herbal hops. Definitely comes off as a filtered hefe but it actually works great. The esters are so reduced that these other aspects shine, especially since they are so vibrant and clean. Taste is similar where the lemon aspects are stronger. A beautiful execution of a clean wheat beer. It is easy drinking and fun, I never thought I would say that about a Kristal Weizen.

Sample at the brewpub. This beer pours black with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Roasty aroma of coffee and malt plus a bit of dark fruit. Medium, dry body with flavors of coffee and hops along with roasted malt in the background. The finish is malty with a cocoa and coffee aftertaste. Above average overall.
