4oz pour at Churchkey’s Nogne O Tap Takeover. Pours a murky black with a ring of beige head. Nose has a ton of burnt marshmellow, caramel, malt, vanilla. Flavor is the same, vanilla, caramel, molasses, burnt marshmellow, cracker, a little bit of rye, some smoke. Clean finish.

Tap at the Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. Poured a clear dark brown with a round off white head. The aroma is light malt, mineral. The flavour is light bitter with a light, slightly watery malt, earthy light metallic, weak spice palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation. Not much happening here. I’m not a fan!

2014 bottle from Binnys South Loop, drunk 4/18/14
Very bright, sunny yellow body is hazy and topped by an off-white head that is small but sits stubbornly atop at cover.
Coriander is the first whiff I get, with a large dose of backing lemon acidity and some light vanilla. Soft milky notes follow; yogurt and such, but not overly dominant. In fact, there’s enough room for the maltiness that still remains. Salty baked wheat bread with butter on it and then soaked in yogurt. Sounds appealing right? That’s kind of how I see this style, but for whatever reason, it actually is appealing.
Coriander and bright lemon-like acidity up front in the flavor, with a supple, creamy wheat structured body. Lacto builds up on the palate and ends with plenty of tartness that helps clear the palate. Overall, the beer is a little sweeter than I’d expect for all of the salt, coriander, wheat and lacto. I guess they anticipated the potential for over-attenuation/astringency, which seems pretty reasonable. As much as I like coriander, it’s probably slightly on the side of overdone here, as I’d rather focus on the delicious wheat and lacto flavors that are just itching to burst forth. That being said, the coriander flavor should pass after 6 months or so, so it seems like an aged sample of this could be delicious. Anways, very interesting and well-made beer. These guys are 2 for 2 in my book and I need to try more.

Draft at Churchkey. Russian Imperial Stout? 3.5%, what? Okay, well - this one poured a dark brown color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was roasted coffee notes, light caramel character, some sweetness, coffee. Touch soapy. Very light roast - not quite cold-pressed coffee, but pretty refreshing and interesting enough.

Some light roast. Palate is a little watery. Finishes with some crispness. Soft carbonation. Not as thick as some others of brand and overall light feel. Dark brown/black pour with ok head and lacing. Tap at Churchkey.

Growler shared from Puzzl. Pours dark brown and it really does smell like s’mores which is nice. Doesn’t taste as rich as smell but you get marshmellow, brownies, vanilla, graham cracker and roasted malt. its a touch harsh but didn’t realize abv was this high at all. not really my bag but interesting.
