About
The “Struise” concept is based on creativity, innovation, quality, sustainability and friendship. We started developing beers anno 2001, at a holiday resort in the village of Lo-Reninge, in a small barn at an ostrich farm called “De Noordhoek”. The first beer we ever developed there, was an Old Style wheat-beer, called “Struise Witte”. The name “Struise” is taken from Flemish slang for ostrich. Our brewery coat of arms takes it a step further and features a proud ostrich amongst knight’s helmet, shield and feathers.
Back in 2003 we decided to go commercial with our latest creation, a Belgian Dark Strong Ale called “Pannepot”. Not with an own installation, for that we did not have the money yet, however, we proceeded as gipsy brewers. First at the Coulier Brewery and later at the nearby Deca Brewery in Woesten / Vleteren. In 2009, we moved to a school facility in the village of Oostvleteren, and where we’ve been brewing our beers independently since 2012.

(2/27/08) Draught at Hotel Erasmus in Bruges. Opaque black-colored beer with a thick, stable, creamy brown head. Also laces beautifully - one of the prettiest beers I’ve witnessed. A really powerful and complex aroma of malt, coffee, roasted bitter chocolate, lots of dark fruits, caramel, some licorice and something else I can’t put my finger on. Sweet flavor of chocolate, some plums and prunes, some espresso and a dry finish with some hops, roastiness and notes of alcohol. A thick, creamy mouthfeel. A wonderful beer. 9/5/8/5/17=4.4

bottle 0.33cl bottle has a comment from ratebeer.com lol. nice. alc. too dominant. I like the aroma best, especially because it tastes a bit less "fruity" than it smells. nice beer, but not one i’ll repurchase. Alo looks good.

Drunk to celebrate my rating number 10100 - the presently highest rated beer available to me, that I haven’t yet rated. A deep red beer with a medium dark brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of herbs, spices, brown sugar, caramel, and malt. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of malt, spices, herbs, and caramel and medium notes of plums and wood, leading to a dry herbal finish.

330 ml bottle purchased online from Liquor Max in Loveland, Colorado. Pour is a hazy orange golden with a big, fluffy 3 inch off white head. Head was quite firm and lasting. Aroma of sweet sugar and bitter grapefruit citrus hops. There is also an earthy, baking maltiness to the nose as well. Taste initially has the sweet sugar, giving way too bittering hops in the middle, and a nice malty finish. Nice transitions in flavor in this one. The finish continues the bitterness. This one was nicely balanced between the hops and the malt. Alcohol is present at the very tail end of the aftertaste. Nicely done by two excellent breweries!
