Description
For nearly twenty five years, our mission here at Smuttynose has remained the same: to brew the best beer we can in a way we can be proud of. That includes honoring New England’s rich beermaking history, respecting our environment, and playing an active role in our community.
We value creativity, quality, authenticity and sustainability, but it really boils down to making great beers to enjoy with friends and family. We hope you love drinking our beers as much as we love brewing them. Cheers!

Pours brown from the bottle. Frothy off white head that turns whispy but lingers. Aroma is barrel, earthy. Taste is malty sweet with inflections of hazelnut, caramel, bourbon, cider. Quite potent and warming with the alcohol just noticeable in the finish. Body is full, carbonation is understated. Nice.

8 oz. cask at Hayseed Restaurant. Pitch black color. A lot of adjuncts but it kind of works. The aroma and flavor are oak and mango forward. Can't really find strawberry or peach anyplace. However, the nice robust base Porter gives a medium plus mouthfeel. Even at a warmer temperature, this Porter was real easy to drink.

4 oz. draft sample at Hayseed. Cloudy golden color, plenty of foamy head. Flavor shows a good wheat base, floral , fruity, mild pine bitterness. Hops are a combo of fruit and earthy. Bitterness is moderate with decent balance. Decent overall.

0.355 l bottle from 'BierPost.com', bottled in 2016. Pitch black with a thin, slightly creamy, stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty and a bit fruity aroma of milk chocolate, nougat, licorice, some vanilla and a touch of dark fruits. Rather sweet, malty, minimally roasty taste of nougat, cream, licorice, vanilla, hazelnut and traces of dark fruits, followed by a medium long, moderately roasty-bitter, slightly earthy and a little warming finish. Medium to full body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very pleasant and well-made, easily drinkable despite the abv, good!

3 month old can > tulip. A: Gently poured to 1/4" of white bubbly foam. Cloudy pale gold. S: Soft scent of sweet orange/tangerine and light caramel. T: Tart, fruity and pithy flavors with dry bready malt notes. Medium bitterness but the beer is pretty old. M: Strong carbonation adds to a light crisp mouthfeel and dry finish. O: Good balance of malt and hops, bread and citrus. Light and easy drinking. Wish I had found it a few weeks ago.

Crisp and clear, absolutely beautiful ruby tinted body with a violet and light blue coloured tint, all with a phantom of an off-white head, only a half a centimetre tall thick. Aroma of blackberries, blueberries, grain, light funk from the yeast and a dose of light sugars throughout. Tart berry flavours at first give way immediately to lactose and some funk there along with grain, light alcohol, assertive carbonation and a more earthy bite throughout. Aftertaste shows more of a fruity flavour with a robust and complex flavour/body throughout with the fruits around, a lot of the yeasty lactose-funk and a good deal of dry characteristics near the end. Overall, a funky and complex beer with a lot of carbonation, fruit flavours, funk, grass and dryness, which is probably enough to make this worth trying, especially if you like berliner weisses or sours, or even fruit beers...or perhaps even if you don’t like any of those to see a pretty good juxtaposition of these styles. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from The Brew Shop in Clarendon (Arlington), Virginia on 27-April-2017 for US$2,49 sampled at home in Washington on 25-August-2017.
