33cl Bottle, 2013 on the front label (brewed in?), 01/10/15 on the cap: poured slowly into a Westmalle chalice at home on 26/04/14. Lovely clear ruby red body, on top a creamy blanket of foam: I didn’t want to break through the crust, it looked so good. Sweet malty molasses however oozed out of the brew, raisins, plums and dark fruits of the forest mingled with yeast and an alcohol trace (if there is such a thing as an alcohol trace, aroma wise). Those sweet aromas didn’t manifest themselves into the mouth as much as I anticipated, the beer being calmer: sweet dark fruits ruled the taste but they were tempered by a balanced bitterness from whatever hops were used in the brew. Good body depth for a Doppelbock: this doesn’t feel like a dark lager on drugs with alcohol added (like a few I’ve had the pleasure or drinking). I am slowly moving towards being a Doppelbock ’con-e-sewer’ and this is a very good example of the style. Not as sweet, or lacking in body depth as some (of the German) within this type of brew: it carries it’s flavours very well.

Clear to hazy golden colour, thin white frothy head, disappears quickly. Aroma bread, dough, caramel, banana, citrus, coriander, herbal hops. Fresh medium sweet taste, slightly bitter, toasted mouthfeel. Lively carbonation, medium body, creamy texture, sweetbitter finish. Not a typical tripel but nevertheless a nice beer.

Clear dark brown colour. Sweet, malty aroma. A bit nutty too. Some caramel sweetness in the taste but in general it’s not too sweet. Balance is good but lacks punch.

330 ml at home. Tasted on 19/01/2014. The colour is between red and brown and the flavour has wood notes and is a little bitter. Nice white head with medium carbonation.

33cl bottle from Bier Navigatie. Thick creamer off white head. Clear burgundy pour. Nice smooth bock. Not oversweet like the commercial bocks. Nice.
