Can. A- Roasty, char, soy, cocoa. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Soy, roasty, umami. P- Full body, thick texture, average carbonation, savory finish. O- I had 3 variations before this base beer and all were outstanding. This was good but not quite on par. This had a lot of soy and umami notes rather than a decadent chocolate flavor. Great but not what I expected.

2023 twelve oz can drunk 10/1/23. Dark, possibly clear, light amount of bubbles. Nice bourbon and chocolate, good tannin with a hint of coconut and lots of spice. Very bourbony but not hot. Rich vanilla, long bourbon drying out the rich chocolate and toasted character. Sweet but rich and with good bourbon acidity. Not boozey.

12oz can from brewery. Maybe clear. No head. Lots of banana not much else. Some vanilla, scant barrel. No booze. Banana, sugar, vanilla, some barrel. Some heat and pepper in the finish. Sticky. Finish has a touch of copper. Eh, bananas a tough sell and it's very prominent here. But it's reasonable in the texture and not sharp. Juicy finish. Grows on you....

Brewery draught, 9/28/23. Some clarity on the edges. No head. Nicely toasted coconut up front, lightly smokey and a touch fruity. Heavy toffee, hazelnut, deep vanilla and more subtle, elegant blanton. Overheard the bartender saying, if you give it a little time, the coconut really comes out, yet this already seems borderline dominated by it right off the bat. That said, it's lovely and works so nicely with the darker chocolate of the beer and rich bourbon. No alcohol noted in this one. Soft, rich, gooey, chocolate-caramel-coconut-pepper-pretzel-roast-raisin-vanilla. Oh my....this is like best of Candy Bar, with a more easygoing, rounded malt character and no edge thanks to the barrel aging. Rich, sweet, syrupy, spicy, with lovely toasted coconut and more bourbon on the finish. Lingering spice and just a hint of ashen roast to help balance. No alcohol in flavor either.

Brewery draught, 9/28/23. Dark. Undetermined clarity. Thin line of bubbles at edge. Tons of spicy, rich bourbon, with rich chocolate, a nip of alcohol and light cherry-vanilla notes. Fudgey base with no excessive sugar. Almost light hazelnut, though I wouldn't guess maple. More alcohol apparent than in some of my fav bourbon BA stouts, though it's far from egregious. Oh wow, the nose doesn't prepare for the rich, chewy, bourbon-amplified, raisin-vanilla maltiness. Thick, moderately syrupy and with lovely bourbon throughout. Sweet, though not too much so. Still do get the raw alcohol on the finish, but again, it's minor. Rich and comforting with fantastic bourbon character. Would like it just a shade drier, but that's a pretty minor complaint as well.

Brewery draught, 9/28/23. Lightly hazy, maize-brass. Small, white head sits at light cover. Plentiful lactic character lends itself to pineapple notes in concert with the dry hopping. Light citrus, low Brett but no hard edge to it. Rustic grains joins in the finish. Clean. Orange-pineapple-mango and maybe even a hint of coconut. So much fruit character for no actual fruit. Super juicy, soft, malty with good bitterness and tartness in the finish. Easygoing lactic and mild Brett notes. Juicy, malty notes lingering. Hint of oak.

Can shared in Hackney - cheers to sethbreaker. Pours lightly hazed yellow-gold with a quickly fading, fizzy white head. Light-medium sweet flavour with mellow acidity, low funk, some pale wood dryness, a little salty sweat, lemon. Light bodied with delicate carbonation. Modestly tart finish, lemony tang. Not bad.

From City Brew Tours, packaged February 2nd 2023.
It pours a hazy dark yellow with small but fairly long lasting head of foam, good lacing.
The smell is fruity, tart, lemon, earthy.
The taste is tart fruitiness, lemon citrus, swishing the beer really brings out the tartness.
Light bodied but surprisingly not watery.
Well done example of the style.
