Light-orange beer, very sparkling hue, some hazyness; good white head, fine and with slightly orange taint. White candy sugar, as well as the inevitable citrus. Fruity and vinous nose, dried apricots, botrytis. Dry orange peel, touch of spiciness, tinned mandarine parts on juice, and I cannot exactly place the spice. Quite dry, whilst spritzy MF despite little visible carbonation. Very original taste - even when I would rather call it Belgian strong ale than a classic tripel. Fusel alcohols, real ethanol is very well hidden. Big thanks to Lachesis, who brought me what Jason and Jim didn’t - but it’s great, brothers!

Bottle consumed on 9/13/2005. Smells really hoppy. Deep citrus, pine-resin, some light fruitiness, quite perfumey. But there is also a distinct caramel malt, which mixes with the hops and produces a cantaloupe sort of aroma. Severely unfiltered, with all kinds of huge things floating around and plenty of sediment suspended in the liquid. Chunky, in a word. Transluscent body is a rusty orange-copper. Light yellow on edges. Flavor begins with a lot of caramel flavor, toffee as well, and is very sweet and wants to be syrupy, but a little bit too watery/loose in consistency for that. Very low carbonation. Needs more, I think. Lacing on the glass speaks to the unfiltered nature, but all of the hops oil makes for a very small, poorly retained head, yellowish in color. Hops taste of grapefruit, resin, perfume, lemons. No alcohol apparency. Good unfiltered body, but not enough interesting fine bubbles. Gets better as it warms, slightly more passable in mouthfeel. But overall, it’s so boring and unoriginal. I guess everyone wants to try their hand at the Double IPA, but come on, put some twist on it. Not so here.

Cloudy golden appearance with a quickly diminishing head. Some fruit, but mostly herbal aroma. Subtle sweetness in the flavor. At the bottom for its style, but still a great beer.

Bottled. A big northwestern hop smell, all right. Pours a hazy orange, and by coincidence, a light orangey malt flavor amid the hop bitterness. Don’t know how old this one is, but the fresher hop notes have subsided to a general bitterness, except for a piney gassiness. Some alcohol is apparent. Needs more malt to balance out, but well worth finding.

Bottle. Dated best by 11/22/05. Certainly pours nice. A helles kind of gold with a bit of depth in the glass. Very thin ring of foam left over. Nice blustery German beer smell. Taste is full of those light lager malts with a brush of Vienna, and a clean German hop profile. Not exceptional, but a fine summer brew that sticks to style.

Pour is a thick looking orange with a small head. Aroma was great! Lots of strong pine and citrus with a nice mellow malty backbone. Flavor is a bit thin on this one but there the hops still make an appearance. Probably not the best IIPA out there but it will satisify you hop crave.

Bottled. U.S. Beer #19 of 31 for American Beer Month! Bottle is at least four years old, so let’s see how it holds up: Pours a bright yellow beneath a frothy/spongy head. Odor of juicy fruit pervades shortly after I open the bottle. Taste is thin and just a little bit dry. There is a pretty notable alcohol component that’s expected of an older beer. Well, I held on to it for quite a while, thinking it would age nicely, but it may have not been the proper beer for cellaring. Slightly stale hop taste that might be okay for the style. My rating is a little bit kinder because of its age.

Deep copper with thick white lace - flowery, biscuity aroma, with background hops and grain - quite grassy and herbal, but with enough, buttery, bready malt to balance it out - floral and tea-like in the finish - quite crisp and refreshing - subtle but complex - one of the best Two Brothers I’ve had.

[draught at The Map Room] - somewhat cloudy gold, with almost no head or lace (appears almost flat) - mild, yeasty aroma, with a touch of lemon/orange, clove, maybe - a little peppery as others have noted, with enough sweetness to cut it, but not to overpower - fairly balanced, but really not all that interesting or different - there are lots of great american-made tripels, but this is just run-of-the-mill.
