Description
For over 20 years, Arcadia Ales has been committed to a British Inspired – American Brewed stable of beers. We aspire to brew beers that achieve brilliance through balance – ales that satisfy the senses with complex flavor while providing pure refreshment that leaves you wanting more.

In 1996, our first 25 barrel batch was brewed on a Brick Kettle Brewing System from England at our Battle Creek, MI location. Fast-forward – today every batch is produced in our 50 barrel American-made brewhouse at our Kalamazoo Riverfront Brewery, Pub and Garden. Our 20th Anniversary in 2016 ushered in a new era of brewing possibilities with the installation of two new 100bbl closed fermentation tanks giving us the ability to use new yeast strains while we continue to brew classic Arcadia Ales using our distinctive, proprietary yeast strain in our traditional, open fermenters. The ability to brew with new yeast strains opens up the Arcadia Brewing Company portfolio of offerings, allowing our brewers to be creative in ways that were not previously accessible and broadening the scope of beers produced. With these changes, we still keep our promise to use only the finest domestic and English malted barley, along with the highest quality hops available from the Pacific Northwest and Michigan.

Admin Note: Formerly named Arcadia Brewing Co. In the spring of 2014, Arcadia completed a new production facility in Kalamazoo, MI. The Battle Creek facility closed in 2016. The company ceased all operations in September 2019.

In June 2020, the Superfluid Supply Co. division of Short's Brewing announced its purchase of Arcadia's beer brands and intellectual property. Whitsun Ale was the first release with plans to resurrect other recipes in the future as well.

Notes from 7/9/2008. Giving the flip top a tug, you'd swear there was an overgrown toddler sucking down on the end of that nipple. Ever try taking away a nipple bottle from a six year old who still thinks he's three? Hazardous. 32oz jug filled over at New Beer & forgotten about in the back of my fridge. The glass sweats like Pat Ewing & it's barely out of the box. NYC is not a fun place to be in July. Ugh. Half a liter goes into my weiss glass with about an inch+ of cream-colored head that slowly starts to melt along with the rest of my furniture. A touch of haze & activity going through a generic brand light amber body. Tangy-ish kiwi & bananas bump uglies & macerate in plenty of alcohol. Coriander & some yeasty bread make up the rest of what I smell. It's too hot to waste time smelling beer. Something like coriander or grains of paradise in the beginning(I've been drinking too much Sam Adams lately, sorry), minor hop zest, bready, & ever so slightly buttery. Finish is pretty easy. Just a touch salty/sweet with some breadyness & a pass of alcohol. Almost like a light weizenbock, if such a sacrilegious thing could be allowed to exist. Feel is excellent. Good carbonation; mild grainy feel gives traction to it's slightly slippery texture. The alcohol doesn't hide too well, even though it goes down without much effort. Pretty thick for whatever style you want to put it under. I'm not the biggest lush, but I wouldn't have a problem loading up on this one. :)

Notes from March 2009 Midwest night. Dry-hopped. Awesome evening. Poured into a wine glass. A dulled, orange-amber color. No head. Smell is herbal, but mostly just very dank. Spicy yeast. Bittersweet rind on the close. Flavor is quite resinous & leafy. Grainy bread crust malt. In combination with the surprisingly adequate carbonation & chalky yeast, it make the mouthfeel almost hairy. Alcohol is not in check. It finishes dry. Tiny pour & an average result. Maybe not again any time soon.

Notes from November 2009 Growler from Community Bev. It was either that or the bottomless keg of Duvel Draft. For...ever... young. :P Poured into one of grandma's small stemmed crystal goblet thingies. Thin, oatmeal cookie-colored head. Body is coffee with a brown ebony sheen. Smells like a milk stout. Nilla wafers up front. Cola & acidity, with a dip of coffee. Not quite ST Choklat, it's richer, bolder, roastier. Taste is mild cold brew coffee, stale Chips Ahoy, & good bit of cocoa powder. It shows promise with some richer char & milk chocolate sweetness that comes through when it's cold, but coffee starts to dominate once it hits the mid 40s. Meh. Carbonation is small, but biting. More then a bit acidic. Alcohol is a little rough, but not totally harsh. Chalky. The beer started off alright, but the growler got tired really early. The score is a touch generous. It's merely the sum of it's parts.
