Established in 1996
In 1996, our first 25 barrel batch was brewed on a Brick Kettle Brewing System from England at our Battle Creek, MI location. Fast-forward – today every batch is produced in our 50 barrel American-made brewhouse at our Kalamazoo Riverfront Brewery, Pub and Garden. Our 20th Anniversary in 2016 ushered in a new era of brewing possibilities with the installation of two new 100bbl closed fermentation tanks giving us the ability to use new yeast strains while we continue to brew classic Arcadia Ales using our distinctive, proprietary yeast strain in our traditional, open fermenters. The ability to brew with new yeast strains opens up the Arcadia Brewing Company portfolio of offerings, allowing our brewers to be creative in ways that were not previously accessible and broadening the scope of beers produced. With these changes, we still keep our promise to use only the finest domestic and English malted barley, along with the highest quality hops available from the Pacific Northwest and Michigan.
Admin Note: Formerly named Arcadia Brewing Co. In the spring of 2014, Arcadia completed a new production facility in Kalamazoo, MI. The Battle Creek facility closed in 2016. The company ceased all operations in September 2019.
In June 2020, the Superfluid Supply Co. division of Short's Brewing announced its purchase of Arcadia's beer brands and intellectual property. Whitsun Ale was the first release with plans to resurrect other recipes in the future as well.

Bottle. Almost black. Dried fruit and marzipan in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with cocos, marzipan, dried fruit, raisin. Maybe the first signs of an upcoming sourness, but this beer is still in fine shape. Hints of oak, vanilla and well integrated bourbon.

Bottle. A- Leather, caramel, biscuits, mild dark fruit. A- Brown color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Dark fruits, caramel, mild chestnuts, brown sugar, slightly malty. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- A pronounced dark fruited note throughout with hits of roasted nuts and some caramel. Good but it just seems like this could have been a bit more robust and complex. Almost like they played it with some caution.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 4/30/2019. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep golden amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light honey/toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/fairly earthy hops and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light honey/toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/fairly earthy hops and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, bready/grainy/sticky, and fairly crisp/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 7.7%. Overall this is an excellent IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/fairly earthy hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/refreshing to drink for the ABV, with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish; not overly aggressive. Awesome Citra/Mosaic profile. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a nice balancing pale/wheat/Munich malt backbone. Mild residual sweetness with lingering crisp resin dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on West Coast style example. One of their best IPAs.

Can. Surprisingly dark, caramely body, medium, tight cream head. Dank nose, tropical fruit and pine resins, booziness. Body malty, caramely, with copper penny notes and berries, finishing moderately bitter with alcohol notes. Something more akin to a strong ale than what I anticipated; a little bit sudsy and light-feeling in the middle but interesting overall. Hopefully the new owners will clean up the marketing and direction of this formerly solid (if not great) brewery.
