A hazed Amber ale with a thick frothy light mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with light mineral notes, grassy hop, ok. In mouth, a rather harsh interpretation of a Bière de garde, with cereals, grassy hop, tart character, a bit off. On tap at Coney Island on tap.

Bottle sample at a wood-aged beers tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Brown with amber hues and a small beige head. Aroma of lots of coffee beans, roastiness, cocoa and some vegetal chili peppers. Bittersweet flavor, a bit roasty, with malt, a bit of dark fruits, lots of coffee, cocoa and a moderately hot chili finish. Medium-bodied. Quite nice.

Rich ruby-tinted caramel coloured body with a very thin, just oily tan head atop the beer. Aroma of smoked malt, rich bacon, earth, caramel and figs - deeply smoked with a pungent meat and mushroom kick. Medium-bodied; Deeply earthy and very meaty smoked flavour with bacon, pork, caramel and especially cereal and grain flavours throughout. Aftertaste has that very cereal and grain flavour coupled with some bacon and smoked meat flavour with hints of sweetness and earth rounding out the flavours - interesting for sure and not necessarily great, but flavourful. Overall, a decent smoked beer with a very earthy and meaty flavour and a rich finish. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 01-November-2013 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 20-May-2014.
