Description
What does it mean to be proud of what you’d done, and to celebrate it at the end of a long, hard day? What does it mean to feel like a neighbor to the stranger sitting next to you? What does it mean to know you have somewhere you belong?
After many years of brewing and the many awards that have adorned Haymarket Beer, Peter L. Crowley understands a thing or two of what makes a great beer. We named our company – Haymarket Beer Company – in honor of those ideas and the people who took pride in them and worked hard to protect them. (That’s a great story, by the way, and you should read more about it.)
We’ve built Haymarket out of everyday people – office workers and school teachers, stonemasons and police officers, plumbers and postal workers – with one promise: making great beer for great beer drinkers. It means that even as we grow, that we never lose sight of what got us where we are today – each other.
Forgive us for getting mushy – this kind of stuff doesn’t come out well through a computer screen. Come and see us the next time you’re in town. We’ll show you what we mean.

From notes. Draft at haymarket. Fruity with loads of citrus and a bit of pine. Not getting a lot of Belgian yeast coming through.

Tap at Haymarket. Filtered orange-tan body. Nice foamy white head. Weird beer. IPA malts, but odd herbal hop tones. Not like a classic IPA at all. Odd lemon-lime orange rind. Dry and rindy.

Tap at Haymarket. Opaque black with a steady beige head. Big American Porter. Oily sweet specialty malt thing going on. They kind of nail it with the self described mandarin orange covered in chocolate. A pretty respectable porter, some odd, chalky edges.

Tap at Haymarket. Hazy unfiltered orange-tan. Thin, steady oily white head. A really pleasant, well executed beer. Big hop and yeast tones, but a subdued malt backbone creates a smooth nice balance. Melon hop tones, maybe some amarillo. Nails it, well done.

Sample at the brewpub. This beer is slightly hazy golden color with a medium bone white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of yeast, malt and floral hops. Medium to full body with flavors of bready malt, yeast and grassy hops. The finish is fruity up front with an herbal yeast aftertaste. Decent overall.
