[50cl bottle from Home Bargains, Reading.] A pale amber pour with a loose white head; pale malt aroma with a little citrus; light malt taste with citrus and tropical fruit flavours; and a dry finish with lingering biscuity malts.

[50cl bottle from Home Bargains, Reading.] A pale amber pour with a thick white head; stewed malt aroma; chewy stewed malt taste; but with a fresh herbal bitterness; and a pleasant lasting bitter finish.

Pour is a thick black with a large tan head. Aroma is Hershey's chocolate syrup. Flavor is a thin roasted dry but sweet malt. Some coffee bitterness without the coffee flavor. Finish is again dry but leaves a bit of chocolate sweetness on the tongue. Thin moutfeel but there is enough here to like. The aroma was better then the flavor.

Lunchtime pint in the 'Spoons. Great pour and the taste was something else. I'd say aniseed! I normally can't abide the stuff, but this really worked. Definitely a best, but not an ESB.

Can, best before Jan 2027, drunk Apr 24, 2026.
Really soft with no bitter/dark/stale coffee character. Fruity, with chocolate and vanilla notes. Great clarity and balance in the nose. Suggests a healthy base malt character, as well.
Decent base malt character. Could be a bit more rich, but this is only 4.2%. Like the nose, it's soft and elegant with no stale/bitter/dark coffee. Just fruity, dainty roast with lots of chocolate and light vanilla notes, as well. Not thin, but a good watery drinkability with excellent flavor.
Nice to finally try another beer from Theakston. Didn't try the recent cans that hit the US of Old Peculiar because I'd rather have the nostalgia than the probable reality, but this is a fine beer, if rather filtered and simple.

Cask at Ye Olde White Hart Hull. Clear chestnut. Foamy off-white head. Aroma had caramel malts with a sour berry streak. Flavourwise it's sour led with low key underlying malts. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft-fizzy carbonation - helped by the barmaid screwing the sprinkler on before diving it into the beer. Long dry somewhat astringent finish..OK.

Cask at the New Inn, Norton Lindsey. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a lasting frothy light tan head. The aroma is roasty, light aromatic. The flavour is moderate to light sweet, with a smooth, rich, toffee, aromatic, liquorice bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
