Description
Hogs Back Brewery was founded in 1992 in Tongham, and bought by current owner Rupert Thompson in 2012. In 2014, Hogs Back planted its own hop field on land adjacent to the brewery, bringing the traditional but near-extinct White Bine hop variety back to its Surrey home.

We’re a small family-owned brewery tucked away in the village of Tongham, in the heart of the old Surrey hop-growing region. Still an independently owned brewery, Hogs Back owe much of their success to their iconic, flagship real ale 'TEA' (Traditional English Ale) - a firm favourite of cask-conditioned real ale drinkers throughout the UK and a multi-award winning brew year-in, year-out.

GBBF. Light haze on this gold beer. No real head. Pretty flat. Light honeyish malt. Good marmalade hops with a great orange tang, Semi dry finish. Pity about the lifeless palate.

Copper colour. It’s a fairly unoffensive but plain bitter. Nice balance of malt and hops but a bit lacking in flavour and rather thin and watery.

Malty aroma with some fruit too. Flavour has nice malt character. Quite sweet overall with a metallic aftertaste.

On cask at Phoenix, Ridgeway - Amber body topped by a small, white head. Caramel, lightly roasted, biscuits and citrus on the nose. Pleasant bitterness in the flavour, with a nice fruitiness. Some roasted hints, and biscuity malts. Medium body, soft on the palate, with a light bitterness in the end. A tasteful and pleasant beer indeed, but not overly impressive in any way.
