Sample glass from a bottle at the 2012 Essen Christmas Beer Festival. Black: with tanned, lasting foam head. Dark chocolate on the nose and taste: burnt coffee comes along as well, with a dry, almost bitter aftertaste. Interesting and different. Bordering on rich, but not creamy: hides the alcohol well and has smoky hints throughout.

Bottle from De Molen. Poured a dark mahogany colour with a thin, long-lasting, off-white head. The aroma is dry roasted malt and dark chocolate. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with lots of liqourice, coffee and roasted malt on the smooth palate. The bitterness disappears rather quickly and this finish is somewhat weak. Very drinkable though and i’d buy this again for sure.

Bottle from De Molen. Poured a hazy straw colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is pure yeast with a little malt. The flavour is medium bitter, crisp, yeasty, a little malt and with rather a lot of liqourice bitterness on the palate. A really refreshing Blond and one of the best i’ve had, but in terms of style, it really doesn’t float my boat any longer.

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a clear chesnut brown colour with a frothy off-white head and medium carbonation. The aroma is nutty, with yeast and a little smoke. The flavour is weak bitter, with a little sweetness on the palate and some nuts and smoke too. The palate is very smooth and the bitter sweet flavour lasts well into the finish.
