Description
Ridgeway Brewing was established in 2002 by master brewer Peter Scholey (former head brewer at Brakspear) and his wife Vanda. The name comes from the ancient trade route that winds its way through English countryside between small towns. It has been around for thousands of years, adapting with the changing times, The reason why we chose the name Ridgeway, apart from living on it, was that we hope to create lasting experiences, believe in the long term and love the outdoors.

Bought by Crafty Brewing in February 2025.

Cask pour at Shelter DC pours a murky, burnt orange with a cap of just off white head. Fizzy carb. Nose has orange peel and noble hop, malt and a little cracker. A touch of potpourri. Flavor took a minute to grow on me. Felt a little stale but as it warmed, some of the sweetness of the malt came out. Malt is there with some treacle, soap and orange rind. Finishes off dry. Bitter.

500 mL bottle picked up as a Cost Plus find. Figure this one is unique enough to give it a try at the low price point. I'd say it was worth it. Nice winter brew with a alarming feel without an excess booze level. Toasty malt character, bitter up front and throughout. A touch metallic on the late linger. Dark chocolate reminders on the palate. Pretty good brew.

Aromas are dark malt, toast and a hint of skunk. Flavors are similar to nose, more bitter than a typical brown with some traditional bitter and skunk in the finish. Drinkable but that's it.

Aromas are dark malt, roast, cocoa and a bit of molasses. Flavors are somewhat similar to nose, add in a little fruit and body is a little thin. A bit toasty in the finish and it's really pretty good. If the body was fuller it would be so much better.
