Bottle at home in London. Pours clear gold with a tight, off-white cream head. Well now, from the nose I’m not very excited about this one. It’s all tangy berries and a bit of funk, which to me smacks of an infection. Huh, you know what? The beer actually tastes pretty good. It’s like a brett-laced IPA - seriously. The tangy edge is nowhere near lip-puckeringly strong, and really just adds some extra nuance to the beer. Otherwise, it’s light to medium sweet with some bitter citrus, grapefruit, hints of pine, berries. Medium bodied with average, creamy carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish with mild resinous stickiness, more brett funk, pine needles that have been aging on a basement floor, lightly toasted bread, some further grapefruit, a bit of tangerine. In the end this was a pretty dynamic beer, although I have to doubt the funkiness was unintentional. Having tasted - and enjoyed - the beer overall, I’ll bump the aroma score up a bit as that’s just one piece of this package. Good one.

Bottle at home in London. Pours clear gold with a small, white foam head. Some lightly grainy, husky malts, bit of grass and corn. Light sweet flavor, lightly dried and toasted pale malts, crisp white bread, some bitter grass, faint pine needles, dry dough. Light bodied with lively carbonation. Crisp finish, a bit of dried out hay, grass, pale malts. Decent bitter kick. Nothing too weighty about the beer, and it is perhaps a touch overcarbonated, but in general it’s a smooth-drinking bevvie.

Bottle at home in London with Lyoli. Pours clear, rich brown with a creamy, off-white head. Classic brown ale nose: bit of dusty cocoa, dirt, toasted leaves. Light sweet flavor, dry and moderate roasted malts, restrained earthy bitterness, baking cocoa. Light bodied with lively carbonation. Light dry finish, some burnt leaves, toasty brown bread, dirt, dry cocoa. Nothing wrong here, though the beer isn’t especially exciting.

(cask@Catford Bridge Tavern, SE London) Reddish/amber in colour with a small head. Aroma/taste of caramel malt, pine and a little spice and sweet fruit on the palate with a bitter finish. Bit watery in body for my liking, but still overall not bad though.
