Description
Brouwerij Sterkens has a particularly rich and very tasteful history. In 1651, the Sterkens family began to brew their own beer out of interest. In that time, they were local farmers with small amount of money to brew some quantities. As they were brewing, they wrote down every single detail of the recipes they made and the way they produced the beer. These notes were given from father to son, for generations on. When the family noticed that brewing beer gradually got more priority than working on the farm, they chose to professionalize the brewery and to fill out more quality beers. The delicious and spicy St. Sebastiaan and St. Paul beers were well appreciated in Belgium, what led to the fact that Brouwerij Sterkens was one of the first breweries who went abroad for exportation.

The current 14th generation of Brouwerij Sterkens have ensured that the beers of Sterkens are appreciated in more than 30 countries on all 5 continents. The Sterkens family is looking to the near future with a lot of enthousiasm and confidence, without forgetting the past. After all, Brouwerij Sterkens is still bottling their beers in distinctive and exceptional packaging.

Sterkens did stop with brewing and became a client brewer in 2008.

Backlog June 2010. Golden body with floaters under a fading white head. Aroma has sweet malt with spicy yeast. Taste is sweet and malty, with spicy yeast, mild fruit and some white sugar. Medium body with soft, sweet aftertaste. Drinkable but a bit too sweet.

Backlog June 2010. Amber body under a fading off-white head. Aroma has malt, hint of dark chocolate and some cellar notes. Taste is sweet malt, caramel, brown sugar and spicy yeast. Fine body with same aftertaste. Quite straight forward, but well made.

Backlog June 2010. Slightly unclear golden body under a big, creamy white head. Nice, mils spicy aroma with esters. Taste is sweet malt with a slightly fruity kind of acidity giving this a more fresh impression than the typical Belgium sugar/malt flavor. Medium body and fresh aftertaste as well. Not a classic Blond, but I find it interesting and very easy drinkable.

Bottle from Wine Raks, St Swithin St Aberdeen. It pours golden blonde with a lasting, thick fluffy white head. The aroma is quite soft, malt - forward, bready, cereal, toasty grain,.soft estery fruits, melon and pear. The taste is dry, quite crisp & snappy, bitter - sweet, sweet - sour, green banana, zingy candied lemon, hint of acidity, some pear, melon, grass, toasty grain, cereal, cracker and dull spice with a bitter - dry finish. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. There is a freshness and zing to it, which stes it out from other triples.

Donkergeel vrij helder bier met zonder schuim. Smaak is fruitig en licht bitter met iets van champagne en druiven. OK, maar niet echt bijzonder.

Bottle from Drinks Vanuxeem, Ploegsteert, Belgium. Pours a very dark brown with a reddish hue (mahogany like) and a thinnish creamy beige head. Nice lacing on the glass. Aromas of dry dark fruits, plums, chocolate, liquorice and some toasty brown bread. Taste has more of the dry dark fruits, more plums and more chocolate and liquorice. A light tartness and also a light touch of sweetness. Quite well balanced. Thin to medium body with average carbonation and slightly oily mouthfeel. Decent slightly above average Dubbel.

Bottle from Drinks Vanuxeem, Ploegsteert, Belgium. Pours a slightly hazy copper colour with a thin soapy looking off white head. Aromas of caramel, citrusy orange, with hints of spices and tobacco. Taste has more of the caramel and citrus notes and a touch more spice. Sweet tang on the finish. Thin to medium body with a slightly fizzy mouthfeel.Nothing special but not bad considering the low abv for a Belgian brew.

cearamic swingtop bottle, capped. dark brown, brown head. medium strength aroma dominated by brown cakes, dark malts, dark caramel. not much yeast character in the aroma. Flavor is very nice, nutty, chestnuts, darker malts. A decently flavoured rather mild dubbel.
