Description
Local Option Bierwerker is the brewing division of The Local Option, a pub in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. Owner Tony Russomanno has established himself in the craft beer community through years of experience, and today he partners with six different breweries to create all of Local Option's diverse and innovative beers. Local Option Bierweker believes partnering with different breweries gives them maximum flexibility, allowing them to brew as large or as limited a batch as needed. They’ve taken up recipes long forgotten by the mainstream, such as the Kentucky Common, and perfected well-established favorites, like their steam beer Dampf Loc. Local Option Bierwerker offers a brash, in-your-face approach to craft beer; they brew with bravado and aren’t afraid of a little well-placed irreverence while still respecting the long-standing traditions that provide the foundation for their heavy metal brews.

Keg at the CBC Clerkenwell during the Second Birthday Celebration - London. Pours clear, deep gold with a fine, creamy white head. Big bready malt nose. Medium sweet flavor, lots of bready malts, light dry caramel, cereal. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish, very bready, more cereal, some grains and dry caramel. The dryness helps hold the malty sugars in check. Nice one.

Keg at CBC Clerkenwell during the Second Birthday Celebration - London. Pours hazy gold with a creamy white head. Smells of rich parmesan and juicy farts. Tastes like someone ate a hearty portion of chicken alfredo (with a generous addition of grated parmesan), digested it partially, and then yacked it back into a glass - my glass, on Saturday afternoon, to be precise. Light sweetness, plenty of cheese, some unpleasant tang (probably the stomach acids). Light bodied with fine carbonation. More cheese to finish - further parmesan and the unwelcome addition of cheddar, too - plus some soft stool. Rough, really rough. Some doughy malts and light (very light) salty bite save this beer from being totally undrinkable. One of the poorer beers I’ve had in a while..

Draught at Ølbaren, Copenhagen
Nice golden to light amber color, with compact head. Light aroma of malt and caramel, some paper and bubblegum. Quite good malt flavor with a caramel declination and very light sweet liquorice root; it has a yeast character that is clean but less than a true German Bock (a bit overdone), providing more esters; correct bitterness, slightly above the German average (no complain); the final is long, quite chewy; this as well is unusual but appreciated.
Tasty but a bit unemotional.

On tap at Local Option. Pours a clear light amber orange with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has a light grassiness with a nice bread note and a touch of sweetness. Flavor has a similar light grass and bread combination with a touch of bitterness in the finish.
