There was potential here but the beer was really too subdued. +++Sampled on draft at D’s in Monroeville this beer poured a hazy orange-amber color with a large creamy orange-white head that lingered forever and left incredible lacing. The aroma was tangy and sweet pineapple, grapefruit and orange. The flavor was bitter, tangy and sour with faint fruit cocktail, pear, a touch of pine and bread. The finish was medium length tangy grapefruit, pear and pine. Medium body. Ok but I was hoping for more.

On tap at the Davis Graduate. I have no idea what test batch this is. The tap handle didn’t have a number on it
Appearance: Hazy golden with a medium sized white head and lots of sticky lacing
Aroma: Citrus and pine, mild malts
Taste: Pine resin and floral
Very nice, easy drinking and smooth

Pours deep mahogany into a jewbelation glass...Tan head quickly recedes to scant remnants. Dark pit fruit, chocolate, and licorice aromas. Thin with dark pit fruit, dark chocolate and dark caramel upfront lightening to licorice and soy before the lasting vanilla oak finish.

12 oz. bottle, pours a dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of sweet candied dried fruits, nuts, sweet dark malts, and chocolate cake. Flavour is less full, with toasted nuts, muted dried fruits, roasted dark malts and some faint molasses. Quite easy to drink, but also a rather muting flavour profile - but maybe my taste buds have been scorched off after so many big beers. Solid, but unmemorable.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks eyes_wide_shut. Really dark brown to black with a bit of light brown foam. Aroma of malt, light roastiness, a bit of chocolate, a lot of alcohol and some fruity notes. Very sweet flavor with lots of malt and chocolate, some caramel, nutty Nutella notes and a drier finish. Full syrupy body.

Bottle at Akkurat, January 2012. Dark brown with a small, slightly tan head. Sweet aroma of toffee, some roasted notes, raisin, nuts and earth. About the same in the sweet taste. Medium body and carbonation. Drinkable but nothing to write home about.

Draught, Avenue Pub. Very dark brown. Not much head. Burly molasses and sweet malt aroma combines impy and barley wine. Both oily and inky. Rich chocolate, intense molasses and dark sugar. Rich. Dark prunes, plums. Only a little bit of alcohol and not too sweet in the finish. Good brew, very intense. Plays to He’Brew’s strengths I think.

After a pizza tour on way to cold of day stopped at Bling Tiger for a drink. This was on cask and poured murky orange brown. Tastes of caramel, grapefruit, grass, rye, and hops. Pretty flavorful.

12 oz bottle. Pours cloudy burnt orange with a medium dissipating beige head that collapses into a skiff of foam. Aroma is super malty and extremely perfumy. Taste is bittersweet, as described. Tastes like an aged barleywine, not my favorite thing at all. Carbonation is average and the body is full. It’s obvious this is quality, unfortunately it’s just not my style--at all.

12 oz bottle from the Holiday Sampler pack. Pours hazy burnt orange with a medium cream-colored dissipating head. Aroma is malty, fruity, a bit funky. Taste is lightly sweet and faintly tart with a slightly dry bitter finish. Carbonation is soft, body is medium. Good.
