Bottle split at LKS, thanks to Bropey for this BB ’98 vintage. Lightly hazed amber with a beige covering. Nose is brown bread, nutty, dark fruit, light oxidisation. Taste comprises biscuit, toffee, brown sugar, wooded notes. Medium bodied, surprisingly spritzy carbonation, semi drying close. Ok for age.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Paul. Best before 1998. Pours clear gold with a frothy, off-white head. The nose has some toasted grain, leaves, mild oxidation. Medium sweet flavor with mild caramel, wood, orange, bread. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes sweet, bready, with some definite oxidation, more caramel, mellow citrus fruits. OK.

Bottle bbf Feb 1998!!! It pours hazy amber with a thick off-white head. The nose is toasty, brown bread, light caramel, light oxidised, twig and earth. The taste is toasty, grainy, brown bread, nut, twig, earth, toffee, light oxidisation, umami and a touch of dust with a dry finish. Medium body and decent, lively carbonation. Has held up pretty well considering. A pretty boring amber, but good for its age.

Can. A- Roasty, cocoa, smoke. A- Black color, black body, brown head. T- Roasty, cocoa, smoky, subtle meat, oak. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, roasty finish. O- Okay, so naturally I expected this to taste a little...errr...salty and meaty, especially since I know what these "oysters’ taste like deep fried. Quite roasty and some dry cocoa, but not extremely complex. Add some coffee notes to it and I think it steps up a little. The aging also seemed more or less non existent.

Can courtesy of HuskerTan, thank you, I think. Dark brown color, fluffy brown head. Roasty and herbal aroma. Taste is softly sour coffee. Woof.

Can. A- Roasty, malty, slightly tart. A- Black color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Sour, subtle cocoa, malty, dry. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, sour finish. O- Pretty sure this one was slightly infected because the sourness came certainly unexpected. However, it wasn’t a bad sour, it actually was fair. Not good, but drinkable.

Can. A- Caramel, subtle pine, malty. A- Dark amber red color, cloudy liquid, off white head. T- Caramel, pine, herbs, malty, slightly bitter. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly bitter finish. O- I’d guess this is about as big of a beer as I’ve had from a can yet. I was pleased with the heaps of caramel I got on the nose and even in the taste. And a good caramel, not the burnt caramel kind. The pine and bitterness crept in as it warmed.

Can. A- Banana, bubblegum, spices. A- Orange color, hazy liquid, fizzy tan head. T- Banana, bubblegum, rye, coriander. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, herbal finish. O- This really felt like a bad witbier or hefeweizen with all the banana and bubble gum and spice. But I guess it’s a saison and I do it some of the aspects that make it that but it’s not a well done saison. Not a horrid beer, but not good to the style.
