On tap at GABF. Pours with a pitch black body and a tan head that stays. Aroma is big time vanilla/vanillin, barrel, alcohol, chocolate, light esters. Some yeasty notes and a bit of green apple. Flavors are very tasty, chocolate, brown sugar, bourbon. Somewhat dry. Boozy and tannic finish.

Growler. Pour is nice and copper orange with a white head. Aroma is full of grassy hops, citrus, light floral, and a decent portion of malt. Medium, well-carbonated body. Flavor has mostly grapefruit and grassy hops going on with residual sweetness from the caramel malts. Quite enjoyable.

Firkin version at Barley’s 9th Annual Mini RAF (05/14/11): The beer is a murky reddish-brown color with a thin light beige head that dissipates to an outer ring quickly. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of tart fruit and yeast. Medium body with flavors of berries, yeast and malt. The finish is moderately tart with a fruity aftertaste. Pretty good introductory type sour ale overall.
