Bottle at Black Christmas March 2022
Dark amber colour, hazy, dull. Medium malt depth, but more fruity than most Barley Wines, moderately sweet, some alcohol smell. Not very complex, but pleasant.

Re-rate: Poured from 500mL bottle. Near black with minimal beige head. Aroma has lots of coffee and green pepper. Taste of mild vanilla, some coffee, feint tobacco, unfortunately didn't age too well. Mar 20, 2022 (9/4/9/4/18=4.4): Poured from 1 pint .9 fl oz bottle at Black Xmas. Black with no head. Nice barrel notes, oak, chocolate, vanilla. Really nice, well balanced.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle. Aroma is malt forward with lots of caramel, toffee, toasted bread and biscuit, and honey notes. Light cherry, raisin and date notes. Medium light alcohol notes and hints of oak. Pours a fairly dark brown with lighter brown hues on the edges and a medium sized, medium thick, tan head that recedes fairly quickly to the edges where it lingers in clumps before disappearing. Faint lacing and long legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with lots of caramel, toffee, toasted bread and biscuit. Lighter notes of honey, nuts, cherries, dates and raisins. Medium bitterness and medium light alcohol notes. Hints of oak. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a solidly unique take on a barleywine. The malt profile has characteristics that I would expect from a more aged barleywine, but the Munich malt got there faster. Balanced alcohol notes and sweetness. Just enough bitterness to be noticeable and cut the sweetness a bit.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle. Aroma is malt forward with lots of dark caramel and toffee. Lighter notes of toasted bread and light caramel with hints of chocolate, burnt sugar and faint roast notes. Light bourbon and alcohol notes with hints of oak. Light raisin notes and hints of cherry. Pours a very dark brown with a medium sized, medium thick, dark tan head that recedes steadily to a small film that lingers in clumps on the edges before disappearing. Faint lacing and long legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with loads of dark caramel, toffee and toasted bread and biscuits. Lighter notes of light caramel, chocolate and roast. Moderate bitterness and medium alcohol notes. Light oak and bourbon notes. Light raisin and hints of cherries. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Overall, a big, boozy bourbon barrel aged barleywine. Tons of malt and barrel character with lots of alcohol. This is definitely a slow sipper. More barrel character comes out as it warms and the malt profile opens up a bit as well.

Bottle. Pours deep opaque near black, tiny tan head, no real lacing. Aroma has notes of vanilla fudge, bourbon; whoah, it really is fudge. Flavor is medium plus sweet, light bitter; a kiss of vanilla on a fudgy beer tempered by light bourbon notes. Full body, flat. Suffers a bit for the lack of carbonation, but still a fine beverage.
Das a lot of nutty toffee rye flavor, always crazy depth to these private press. Straight dram flavor on the finish in a great way, like sipping a barleywhiskey.
