About
Metalman Brewing was born in 2011 when two beer enthusiasts decided they’d had enough of the outlandishly limited selection of beer available in Ireland, and decided to do something about it.
They started by contract brewing at a small brewery in Tipperary while building a brewery in Waterford city with a 6.5HL brewhouse. Draught Metalman started popping up in all sorts of places, and various brewery upgrades followed. At the end of 2014, they installed the first canning line at an Irish microbrewery, and cans of Metalman Pale Ale hit the shelves in January 2015. A brewhouse upgrade to 24HL followed later that year, as did various seasonal and limited edition releases.
Making beer is bloody hard work, but dammit it’s a lot of fun!

can at chriso pre gbbf 2016. hazy gold lasting white head. some yeast on aroma. some herb hop yes quite a dry flowers zwickel. pretty decent. pretty good zwickel.

33cl can. Pours hazy pale golden colour with a small white head. Aroma of pale malt, some citrus and flowers. Taste of bitter floral hops, flowers, pale malt and grains.

Tap. Dark amber with small tan head. Aroma is malt, caramel, toasted, hop, dark fruit and hop. Flavour is malt, caramel, dark fruit, toasted, medium sweet, hop and a little bitter.

Can at home in London - picked up at Borough Wines in Hackney. Pours mostly clear orange-gold with a creamy, white head. Grainy malts in the nose, a little apple, ripening citrus. Light sweet flavour with further pale grains, white bread, fine grassy bitterness. Light bodied with massaging carbonation. Finishes with more grassy bitterness, simple pale bread, lightly husky grains, light apple, orange peel. A little too bitter in the aftertaste. So so overall.

Can sample at a tasting at Ben’s place. Thanks Tom L. Dark brown to black with a nice tan head. Aroma of roast, some oranges, some chocolate, coffee. Sweetish flavor, roasty, with coffee, some chocolate, a bit of oranges, and an ashy bitter finish. Medium-bodied. Decent.

Clear dark orange beer, big irregular off-white head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very malty, oxidized, bit sweet, some orange peel, Madeira, marzipan. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet malty start, some honey, bit oxidized, caramel malts, soft bitterness, hoppy. Aftertaste: sweet, caramel malts, bitter, little fruity. Either the date on this can is completely wrong, or the BB-date is way to long after canning. Not a bad beer in se, but this has very little to do with an ipa. And calling your beer an ipa as a craft brewer, creates certain expectations, these days.

Taste:s oft smoke touch, pretty roasted, cocoa powder, little sweet, bit sourish. Aftertaste: roasted, soft chilli, some coffee, little bitter, sweet malts. I'd like to see more smoke and more chilli in this beer, then it'd be really good.

Can. Clear amber beer, good cream colour head. Palate is smooth, fairly dry with reasonable carbonation. Caramel malts, sweet with a little cream. Hops are dry pithy, some orange peel. Mild pine. Dry caramelly finish. Somewhat malt forward and a bit dry pithy. Okay.

250 ml. draft @ Moeder Lambics Fontainas. Clear darker shade of orange with a creamy solid white head. Nose is moldy industrial hops, barn & unpleasant mothballs. Taste is weird moldy, big unpleasant herbal mothballs, something dirty, faint butter & big malty & herbal body. Strange mothball bitter profile doesn’t appeal to me, body saves it a bit, taste is not the greatest.
