Description
It seems simple.

Water. Yeast. Grains. Hops. That’s all it takes to make beer. But what we do with those simple ingredients within these walls is what makes us special.

Foothills began brewing beer at our West 4th Street location in March 2005, with three 15-barrel fermenters. Jamie and his brewers managed to crank out 800 barrels of beer that year, and doubled that output the following year.

As demand and production continued to increase, the need became obvious for more space. The solution came in the form of a 48,000 square foot warehouse a few miles away, an old manila envelope factory that was retro-fitted with brewing equipment and became Foothills’ main production facility, located at 3800 Kimwell Drive.

Today both brewery locations continue to produce our top-quality beers. We offer weekend tours from our tasting room at our main brewing facility. Conversely, if you ask nicely at the downtown brewpub, you can probably get a peek at the operation.

The Aromas are fruit and citrus oxidized hops with a little caramel malt. Flavors are somewhat like nose with a very slightly sweet citrusy start and a somewhat harsh bitter finish. Good body and carbonation. But one and done.

The Aromas are caramel malt with hints of roast and fruit. The appearance is traditional with a deep brownish red that looks like Vienna malt. Flavors are disappointing to me, very little sign of Vienna malt or roast. Flavors Trend sweet with a hint of bitter, fruit, toffee and a little caramel. Maybe a hint of roast in the Finish.

Crisp and ever so slightly hazy amber and almost deep brown coloured body, all with a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head that fades on the quick side. Aroma of nuts, toffee, caramelised sugatrs, a dash of apples and pears with a little bit of spices and a touch of hay at the end. Medium-bodied; Spicey flavour at first with a lot more caramelised sugar flavours and a dash of grain towards the end along with a touch of hay and a good nutty finish with a healthy hand of earthy malts as well. Aftertaste shows a good balance of the spices and the malts with a lot of sugars and almost no hop flavours at all, which is okay. Overall, a nice and polished vienna that has a decidedly spicey and nutty profile that is crisp and enjoyable even without any real hop flavours throughout, but the sugars and light fruity flavours provide the good balance. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Lidl in Manassas, Virginia on 14-June-2018 for US$5,19/six pack, sampled as 'Brewers Storehouse No 03 Amber Ale' sampled at home in Washington on 11-September-2019 to sample as an All-American beer on the eighteen year anniversary of a not-so-good day.

Rating #10,000. Celebrated appropriately. ++ Sampled from a bottle this beer poured a black color with a large foamy brown head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was malty with bacon, floral hops, a hint of chocolate and booziness. The flavor was roasty, bitter and dryish with bacon, Bakers chocolate, floral hops and booziness. Long finish. Moderately full bodied. Disappointing.

Bottle @ DTS. Black and opague. Aroma and flavor have coffee and loads of dark chocolate. Just a hint of salt and licorice. The alcohol is well hidden. Syrupy, creamy mouthfeel, earthy hoppy finish. Very well balanced. This IS is really good!

Pour is a murky orange with a small white head. Aroma is a decent enough cinnamon and nutmeg. Flavor is again pretty much all cinnamon and nutmeg which is alright. No real attempt at making this a pumpkin beer, this was a straight up spiced ale. Still I am a sucker got a good spiced ale and this fits the bill. Also I liked this alcohol percentage at 5.7%. Some pumpkin beers kind of go overboard with the booze.

4 week old bottle A: Poured hard to 1/2 of tan foam that never completely dissipated and laced thickly. Deep dull orange gold color S: Heavy on caramel and toffee with sweet/tart citrus notescompeting in balance. T: Bitter and fruity hops hit first with wood and sweet bread malts joining, again in very nice balance. M: Full bodied with active carbonation and a somewhat clean finish. O: Not a favorite style due to the high ABV but the high scores are understandable. Seems very well done and is quite tasty but I'm glad I only have one!
