Description
It seems simple.

Water. Yeast. Grains. Hops. That’s all it takes to make beer. But what we do with those simple ingredients within these walls is what makes us special.

Foothills began brewing beer at our West 4th Street location in March 2005, with three 15-barrel fermenters. Jamie and his brewers managed to crank out 800 barrels of beer that year, and doubled that output the following year.

As demand and production continued to increase, the need became obvious for more space. The solution came in the form of a 48,000 square foot warehouse a few miles away, an old manila envelope factory that was retro-fitted with brewing equipment and became Foothills’ main production facility, located at 3800 Kimwell Drive.

Today both brewery locations continue to produce our top-quality beers. We offer weekend tours from our tasting room at our main brewing facility. Conversely, if you ask nicely at the downtown brewpub, you can probably get a peek at the operation.

Draught @ Albion. Clear light golden with large foamy off white head, sweet lemon drops aroma, medium carbonation, sweetish starting honey-citrus taste turning bitter towards the end, thin body, long finish. Interesting flavor profile.

Uninspired for a black IPA, more like a bitter dry porter, with a heavy dose of unsweetened chocolate and pine, but lacking the bright hop notes needed to stand out in this style. Eh.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run. 900th North Carolina rating! Hazy gold, thin creamy white head, good retention. Aroma of doughy malt and stone fruit. Taste is lime, crackery malt. Medium bodied, dry. Solid.

Bottle from kroger I believe. Looks like any other pale clear beer. Lots of visible sparkling carbonation. Smell is mostly simple beer but the nose hints of a little fruit in there. For a fruit beer, this comes across rather better. Its certainly tart. Taste is somewhat refreshing, something between a radler and a berliner weiss riding on a typical lager beer background. Goes down fairly easy. Good cutting co2. Not bad overall, doesn't seem to have many, if any, ill effects. I'd drink another.

Nice label on bottle. Big strong impressive fest beer impressions. Totally big blast beefsteak. So strong so rich so malty and even a little cloying, whew. Yes big time okto fest. Leaves a medicinal feel on the palate when finishing in the end. Cloudy darker beer but not really dark. Has a creamy head on it. Smells malty and a little volatile. Decent cutting co2.

2 week old bottle A: Almost black plum color with 1" of thick tan foam. Good retention and patchy lace. S: Muted scent mainly of sweet chocolate and roasted malts. T: Bitter flavors of powdered chocolate and pine. A faint fruity tang to finish. M: Smooth powdered chocolate mouthfeel with soft carbonation and slightly sticky finish. O: Not bad but seems more like a hoppy brown ale than any IPA. Texture is great though.
