Description
Arthur Van den Bossche founded the brewery in 1897. After his death in 1925, Elenora Callebaut, Arthur's wife and daughter of the Callebaut brewers and chocolatiers family, continued the brewery. In 1935 Willy and Mark Van den Bossche, the 2nd generation, take the helm and further expand the brewery. Ignace son of Mark Van den Bossche, 3rd generation, becomes active in the brewery in 1976. In 2015 Bruno Van den Bossche takes over the brewery from his father. The 4th generation is now taking the lead.

One of those attempts by Belgian family brewers to connect with the new wave of IPAs in this country, since 2008. Snow white, creamy head, deep golden colour, aroma of pale malts, leafy hops, caramel, pear and some DMS (cooked cabbage); taste softly malty in onset, rounded, bit of caramel, quickly overpowered by a strong, citrussy and leafy hop bitterness, finish long and dry. I applaud all efforts made to make the Belgian public familiar with IPAs and this is no exception.

Medium offwhite head. Clear yellow body. Spicy metallic strawy aroma with waxy notes. Dryish mealy watery taste with spicy notes. Mid-bodied. Fizzy mouthfeel, slightly sharp. Dryish spicy herbal aftertaste with boiled water and fruit notes. Nice, drinkable, not a standout. (0.33l draft at Heeren van Liedekercke.)

330ml bottle form (I think) Beers of Europe. Pours clear brown, thin off-white head. Light banana at first on the aroma, some spice and dark sugar. Tatse has more fruit, spice, yeast, candi sugar. Medium body, decent balance. Yeah, liked that one!

33cl bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - chestnut with an amber tinge. Good head. Nose - honey and general candy sugar sweetness. Taste - slightly grapey or appley but apart from that, there’s toffee and not much else. Palate - medium bodied with a sweet sugar texture in the middle and there’s a decently balanced finish. Overall - nice but slightly one-dimensional even if that dimension is good.
