Pint on tap at The Charming Squire, Brisbane. 5.1% Fresh citric nose, hazy amber colour. Thin head of foam. Slight effervescence, super easy to drink. Smooth texture, nice rockmelon fruity bitterness. Good lacing. Finish has notes of caramel, anisette, lemon, tropical fruit. Really nice pale ale, lots of depth but a great quaffer in the Brisbane heat.

Can. Amber with a white head. 3+ Aroma of mandarin, lychees, light bread. The lychees are a bit more coconut milk in the taste but unlike post pale ales I've tried with Sabro, it works really well: there's light citrus and a mild spice to the moderately bitter end. Being crafty it's all a bit low key but this is a good one - the best Hop Thief by miles (and their best beer since Ten20).

From a 355ml can on 25/9/2020. Pours super clear deep golden/light amber with a small head. Has a quite a sharp citrus fruit nose with a bit of caramel. On the sip, there's a fairly big caramel and biscuit malt backbone, and a good dash of citrus sweetness, followed by a firmish lingering herbal bitterness, with a light metallic finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation. The Hop Thief series had been fairly decent and this is no exception. A reasonably interesting and flavoursome APA.

330ml can into lager glass. From BWS, Glen Innes. Pours a cloudy light lemon colour. Very high carbonation, sharp ginger nose. Flavour and finish are much sweeter than the nose. Definitely ginger beer. Very easy to drink but no real bite.

From a 355ml can on 26/7/2020. Pours a clearish medium golden with a small head. The nose is quite indistinct with a bit of muted fruit sweetness. On the sip, there's a a bit of sweet citrus, a mild bitterness and not much else. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Not particularly IPA-like to be honest. Not an unmitigated disaster but disappointing. I just tried the latest version of JS Hop Thief which has miles more flavour and character than this, and it's an APA.

355ml can into glass. From BWS, Scone. Copper coloured beer with a thin foamy white head. Light carbonation. Excellent aroma of plant life, herbs and malt. Stupidly easy to drink, refreshing, malty, clean finish. There's some lingering pepper, caramel background. Quality beer. Really nice.
