Notes from August 2009 Complex brew with intense fruitiness. Aged in oak for five months. I read on blogaboutbeer.com that this beer is brewed with brett. Maybe it's just not really noticeable yet, like a fresh batch of Orval. Anyway, generous keg-kicking last pour into my Duvel glass. Lots of CO2-induced white-wash foam(as expected), but it settles into a very respectable 3/5ths of it's original size. Body is a slightly chill-hazed yellow amber. Smell is basic grain, with lots of pepper, sharp florals, & leafy greens. Lightly toasted dry malt, but the taste carries more resins & rindy notes then anything else. Not intense, but still pretty green & zesty, with bitter orange & nice dry leafy notes. Sweetness is mild & supporting. No real Belgian/Trappist esters that I can notice. Alcohol fumes with substance, & the body is overall pretty damn dry(which works for me). A very tight beer. I wouldn't mind seeing this replace their regular IPA. As long as they don't ship it out of to the Lion & let them piss in it.

12 ounce bottle. Honey gold pour. Brief white head. Earthy, yeast wheat malt aroma. Sweet, wheat malt flavor upfront. Notes of orange peel, Belgian candi sugar and coriander. A bit more body and depth than I am accustomed to for the style. Some spicy hops on the backend. Very Belgiany. Quite nice.

2004 bottle thanks to FX. Pours a dark brown with no head. The aroma is dark fruit, booze, wood, leather. Thin body, leather, toffee, wood, raisin, still lots of heat, held up well, very good.

2002 bottle thanks to FX. Pours a cloudy dark orange with small white head that lasts. The aroma is faint grape, earth malt, wood. Slick body, similar flavors to nose, light tartness, a bit muted. 2011 bottle thanks to FX. Pours a cloudy orange gold with small white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is grape must and wood. Much more bright than than the 02’. Held up very well.

Bottle from the release way back. Bottle 18/450 @home, March '17. Spring cleaning special. Rounded pint glass, bottle is a slight gusher. A hazy orange amber body. Very perfumey. White grapes, wheat, lime zest, roses, a touch of butter. Taste is heavy & oh so unexpectedly light on oxidation. Rich, almost creamy & sweet wheat upfront, thinning out, turning limey & moderately tart midway through. The brew finishes grapey & strong, middling carbonation & only mildly hinting at oxidation. Really great. Glad I waited? Not really. Just afraid of drinking the last one. 4.5

Foil-capped 12oz bottle from SH a long ass time ago. 361/500. 2011 it seems from cross reference. Waited in line at like 4:30am in the butt ass cold to buy my allotment & drink at the bar just a few hours later. Mojito glass @home. Super cloudy, yeasty, messy, but with a nice ring of lace. Smell is supremely malty, starchy, sweet, fruity-sharp. Strong. Smell is subjective. Starchy, toasted malt, chocolate chip cookies, oily, sharp cherry wood, wheat, tobacco, lingering cheerios, well integrated oxidation. Lots of cookies. Still not dry. Thick, frothy, rustic, strong for just 11%. I don't mind it, it is tasty & has stabilized quite well. I just want to drink a nip & be done though. If I were a fan of the style this would be higher.

A dark brown porter with a very thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark fruits and caramel, oxidized, tired. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark fruits, molasses, caramel, vanilla, light oxydation, OK.
